Regarding Physics

"Every hit in NHL 11 is gonna be a new hit because it's not animation based, it's physics based"

"If you just clip a guys leg, he might trip on one leg, if you hit him low he's gonna go over you, if you hit him into the boards from ten feet away he's gonna go into the boards hard and actually use physics against the boards, not animations."

It's all about these moments that happen in a sports game that you didn't expect, these crazy moments happen and hockey where you say "I can't believe I just saw that" and we wanna get to that point where anything can happen, we're not scripting anything, we just supply this tools/physics and then people go out and play.

- They have a russian phd in physics helping them with the physics engine

- Their focus with the physics was with the players and the boards. With "some new puck stuff" and "some new faceoff stuff".

- It's a 3 year plan to get the game entirely physics based

Regarding Broken Sticks

People have to understand, we're not just putting broken sticks in there as a gimmick . . . the two pieces of the stick are on the ice and stay there, it can interrupt a pass . . . it could end up causing a breakaway . . . you can kick the puck up the ice . . . you can play defense without a stick . . . you can hand your stick to a defender if you're a forward

Did anyone notice the Creative Director of Madden say that NHL is bringing back a speed burst/turbo button this year?

He had to be talking about the "push puck" button, and that was new last year, not this year.

If the madden guy said it was new, then it's not the push puck. that has been in there since 09 or possibly 08 ( i don't recall ). It was also never call turbo either, so I hope its in there again, that could make for some interesting game play.

I wouldn't mind the "turbo" being added back in. Right now, the game is always going at the same pace all the time. With speed burst you, speed would actually matter in the game again.

Yes and immediately following that he said "and of course after we take it out, I hear they added it back in this year" or something like that.

And how can anyone want it back? It was taken out for a reason, and their philosophy on that should absolutely not change. Push the puck is fine, but a straight up speed burst? No thanks.

It's quite simple. They tried it for a few years, decided it didn't work out like they had hoped, and they decided to go back.

I dunno I think it works just fine personally, want some extra oomph with the puck? Push it forward and blow by a defender. No need for arcadey turbo boosting imo.

I think it's more of a problem that you can't change speed easily. One of my most effective moves on the ice is taking it up out of my zone easy with the puck, and then turning on the jets and blowing by the guy. I think the idea of a Turbo button seems too arcadey to some, but that's really how it works in hockey.

There was a noticeable difference in that the same player skates at the same pace the whole time.

Of course I'd rather it be called "sprint" or something.

My problem is how they plan on implementing this, seeing as they moved pass to RT when they got rid of the sprint button. Maybe click down the left stick to sprint, like in Call of Duty?
