Wonderland's PC sliders/settings+rosters (4.1)

Wonderland's S&S (+rosters) 4.1
updated 11/4

Rosters: The included roster file is Meh & Ryan's Total PC Roster, with slight modifications. My thanks to the fellas for letting me include it! It goes with the gameplay sliders overall in the sense that it's geared towards less inside stuff, slower pace, better defense, etc.

User offense: You should have a tougher time of getting your shot, and it will definitely be important to get open shots with these because it's tougher to knock them down. You'll have to run some plays or otherwise do a good job of strategizing and finding the open man or you're not gonna put up a good shooting percentage or points. It should also be tougher to cheese drives to the hoop, although some of that is up to the player. I recommend playing realistically on your part.

CPU offense: Major work has gone into trying to alter the awful tendencies of the cpu doing nothing but cut to the basket and score off-the-charts points in the paint. I think I've gotten to a point where you'll see a good distribution of shots, including plenty of mid range jumpers and enough threes. They won't be able to drive the lane at will anymore and if you're able to play competent D, you'll have a significantly improve experience from vanilla.

User defense: This has been improved to make it harder for the cpu to get inside and cheese those close shots. You still have to make an effort, do your best to cut off drives, call appropriate double teams and just do what real teams do to prevent opposing teams from lighting them up. You're cpu teammates should also be much more competent, giving good help defense while not abusing it by constantly leaving their man and switching off.

CPU defense: This is one of the best parts. I beleive it's pretty tough defense now and you really do have to work to get your shot. You can try just tossing them up from anywhere in any situation, but you're not going to have success. They'll also stick to their man better on the ball and make it tough to drive to the hoop. They also do a good job of playing passing lanes and forcing you to make good decisions and not carelessly throw the rock around expecting results.

Settings: I highly recommend trying out the supplied settings as they are designed to work in conjunction with the sliders. The minutes are set at 6 per quarter, so everything is easily multiplied by two for full-time stats.

If you want to play full-time, I would suggest making it 12 minutes because the sliders are balanced for slower gameplay and realistic action relative to a 12 minute quarter system.

Also, in the interest of realism, all possible icons that can be turned off are off for a minimalist look and feel. You really have to feel out the game for yourself instead of relying on tracking icons or anything else, making it more challenging and fun in my opinion.

One of the points I worked towards was realistic fouling, so if you're more into an arcade experience that's just non-stop action, this might not be for you. My ultimate goal is to get as close to a realistic games as possible, so there'll be realistic fouls in the lanes and even some jump shots fouls for overzealous fellas.

Fouls: I dropped the foul out limit to 3 to be consistent with the half-time feel of the settings. Now to go along with this, I've also dropped foul rates so there aren't as many and people don't get benched a minute into the game with 1 foul... at least not as often as it would have been before.

This also has some other good effects in that there are less free throws, more field goals, hence more rebounds which was lacking in recent versions with more fouls. It also works towards field goal percentage realism.

So here's the deal. If you guys want to go back to 6 foul out limit, you should go back to the previous setting of Reach In foul: 60 and Shooting foul: 85 to get back to the earlier levels of more fouls and free throws per game, without getting people benched and fouling out too early.

For more detailed foul settings regarding different quarter lengths;

Here's a couple of post-game statistics. Remember, everything is halved, so x2 for full stats. I'm the Lakers in both.

Ok there's been an update to this. I think the file I initially posted may not have worked, so these should. Also, I made a few more tweaks to have some more fouls and tighter defense.

Here are the stats from my most recent game with the new update.

Re: Wonderland's PC sliders/settings

Yeah I was thinking about doing that for xbox users, which I'm assuming should be pretty much identical since the pc version is a direct port. I'll put that up sometime soon.

I'm sufficiently confused. Have the rosters been released yet?

I went to the Chinese site and had to install some language files. After going to the link for the files I still couldn't understand what was going on.

Hey, if you're listening, could you send the roster file to--

alan.bernardo@gmail.com

I think Gmail takes 2 meg files.

If not, is there somewhere I can get these files other than the Chinese site?

Thanks for your work,

Alan

Re: Wonderland's PC sliders/settings (1.1)

Ok I just re-upped nigu's roster file myself.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/mpoj8j

That's the original version he released, so it doesn't include my coaching slider tweaks. I'm still waiting to hear back about whether or not it would be all right to release them with my sliders and so on.

By the guys, I've been working on the sliders some more and I think I'm this close to perfection. I'm just making some more minor tweaks before the next release.

Basically, the defense is tight on both end, the user won't be able to cheese too easily and just drive to the hoop every single time. They man up on you, play passing lanes, contest shots, stick close. It's actually hard to get a shot off, you actually have to run plays, find an open man, be creative and strategize to be able to knock down shots.

On the CPU end, I've been working more to get them away from the paint as much as possible and it's getting better and better. The more I tweak and play games, the more realistic the action is becoming. Been having some absolutely epic games with the most recent set. However, this is playing with my coaching slider changes implemented. What I just might do is release a roster file with the default PC rosters and just the coaching sliders changed, if I don't hear back from the guys who released the updated roster I'm using.
