Night Owl Dynasty Sliders - Sim Style

Before using any sliders you must understand this simple truth...
This game will never play simulation style football with modified sliders alone period.
It's not possible, it ain't gonna happen. This has been the case since the original xbox.
Just go play Alabama on any skill level and check the end of game stats. They will pass 35 times and run 15.
This is no where near reality and it's like this for every team. IMO EA designed it this way to achieve a realistic
number of points in 20 minutes of football. So in conclusion, no set of sliders have the ability to address this problem. If you are not willing to make the changes necessary to fix this issue then you will never have a realistic simulation of college football.

Myself and a OS member named Jukeman both were working independently on this problem on the original xbox. I came up with a percentage method which was a quick fix, while he put a vast amount of time into creating a permanent accurate fix for the game. I have been using his fix since the original xbox and it still works fantastic.

At the very bottom of this post you will find Jukeman's original Run/Pass percentages for every team in the game.
There are two ways to use his numbers.

    1) Before each dynasty game go to the coach strategy section of the team you are about to play and edit the run/pass slider for that team only.
Once the game is over go back and put the slider to its original value.
The benefit to this method is that the simulated dynasty stats are not changed, they remain the same.

    2) Edit every teams run/pass percentage once and you are done forever.
The disadvantage to this method is the dynasty stats will be skewed toward the run a bit. The games you play will be the same using either method.

So it's up to you. If you don't mind the dynasty wide stats being skewed a bit then method two is best. If you are a hardcore stats guy then method one will be best for you.
This slider can be confusing but just remember you are moving it to the left for every team in the game. If you can't hit the exact number listed, then just get as close as you can. Sometimes this slider skips a few numbers as you move it.

Next: You probably read people complaining about the CPU not throwing the long ball. Well I have been able to increase the deep throws by the CPU. In the same place you edit the run/pass slider, you will find a conservative / aggressive offense slider.
Simply move this slider all the way to the right for every team in the game. You will see more long balls. Again you can use method 1 or 2 from above to make this change.

NOTE: These run/pass - aggressive/conservative changes can only be made in dynasty mode.
You can not test these in play now. Create a test dynasty to try this out.

    Now for the sliders.

Because of the slider bugs its not possible this year for me to create a challenging set of AA sliders.
However, these Heisman sliders are the best I've ever created. These sliders are what we are using in The Night Owl Dynasty along with the above run / pass changes.

    Here are the Sliders:

    --Heisman Level
    --8 Min Quarters
--CPU/Human sliders are the same, so these work great offline, online, or against a local friend.
Since they are balanced sliders they will not need to be changed 'IF' EA ever patches the slider bug.
So if you like them, you are good to go in all situations.

    Offense

    QB ACC - 40
    Pass Blk - 0
    WR Catch - 10
    RB ABL - 40
    Run Blk - 0

    Defense

    Awr - 50
    Knockdown - 100
    INT - 0
    Brk Blk - 100
    TAK - 25

    Special Teams

    FG PWR - 5
    FG ACC - 0
    Punt PWR - 0
    Punt ACC - 60
    Kick off - 70

    All Penalties maxed out.

The above sliders in conjunction with the below run/pass sliders create a fantastic simulation of college football.
The game play feels wide open but the red zone is tough. Running is fluid and feels much like AA Level but a bit harder.
Passing is perfect and so are the completion percentages. Pressure is back and feels very similar to the 08 version.
INt's are realistic because the CPU will run the ball more.
50+ yard FG's are a thing of the past, they can be made, but you must be dead on perfect, the cpu max range is about 45 yards depending on kicker power.
Kick off returning is improved but not perfect. CPU/Human average about the 30 yard line on returns.

If you like this style of simulation play please keep our online dynasty in mind. We are currently full but will have
openings in season one as people drop out. So put yourself on our waiting list at:

** A note to commissioners: Once you take your dynasty online you can no longer edit the run/pass percentage for every team.
You can however create a offline dynasty, edit all the run/pass sliders, then 'host the dynasty' online and the changes remain in place.

I like playing cpu vs cpu or coaches mode. Did you test these sliders out for this type of game play?

I haven't bought the game yet so i didn't have a chance to do any testing.

WHy in the world are teams like Texas Tech, Hawiaii, ect.... rated 80 run and 20 pass ??? If you watch these teams play they do the exact opposite. They throw the ball 50-60 times a game.

I just used these for a half in my Dynasty. Illinois vs. Michigan (Me)

Juice Williams was 10-11 with 0 sacks and 2 pressures against

Now I can not make a judgement based on only ONE half, but it didn't look good. The CPU was able to hit guys wide open on short routes all day. I also tried your aggressiveness suggestion (despite trying it to no avail previously) and still NO deep passes.

I'll let you know how a full game(s) go shortly. I've enjoyed your work on previous years, but I'm afraid there isn't anything anyone can do for some of the frustrating issues this game has. Mainly the other-worldly cpu QB's and lack of deep balls.

It was pretty tough passing the ball with 30 as the QB ACC, wasn't really able to hit anyone except on short crossing routes.

I believe they still will throw the ball many more times than not. This type of fixed worked a few years ago, (I think Jukeman did it then too) worked very well actually...havent tried it out this year, but I will later tonight.

I would say don't pay so much attention to what the % is set at, pay attention to what takes place on the field.

I loved the sliders you made for 07. They made the game just what I was looking for. So i'm going to have to try these out.

              Edit:

So far I love these sliders. Short game is more realistic. Run game feels amazing and the defense actually pursues like it should to the ball. I'm loving this game right now.

                Mizzou 75% run and 25% pass%?
Texas Tech 80% run and 20% pass?

Maybe I am missing something here but the above teams are passing teams. Shouldn't the run / pass percentages be reversed?

I apologized if I am confused about what you mean but as I see it you are suggesting that Mizzou and Texas Tech run the ball 75 to 80% of the time?

i dont think thats what hes saying.. i think its more around the idea that yes, they are passing teams, but the game has it set to where they will NOT even run the ball, so by using these percentages, you can get them to run the ball a little bit to keep teams off balance, otherwise tech will throw almost 70 times.. seen it happen..

I used the same system in 07 of tilting the % towards the run before I played a team in dynasty mode. It helps a lot to make the computers playcalling more realistic.

These sliders have turned my USC dynasty into a great experience. My first game with the sliders I played at washington state and beat on them like I should, 34-3. I had blown teams out prior to this but this was the first time I beat on them like it would happen in real life. I didn't completely dominate, my offense wasn't unstoppable, but I just had better players which resulted in the win. Earlier in my dynasty I had dominated #6 Arizona State 51-25 and it was a terrible game. Facing a top ranked team like that should create a nervous and exciting game. Instead I ran the score up early and cruised through to the end. Now the games feel a lot more fair and challenging. I have to fight the entire time to stay in control and I don't feel like I'm exploiting the computer as much. I hate to feel like the settings are too easy, or that I have to take it easy on the computer to make it realistic game.

In the washington state game, McKnight and Johnson had about 100 yards on the ground each and Sanchez threw for about 250. I had three sacks with my d. Good pressure most of the game. I can't remember the AI QB's % but it was low 60s.

In the Arizona game, I knocked out Tuitama early, but he completed only 61% on off 11 passes and his backup completed only 56%. Their running back went off on me for 110 yards.

I've thrown 5 picks in the last two games but that is because I've always been bad in the passing game. I just don't like or care about passing enough to do well at it. I force the ball too much and last year in 08 I payed for it a lot. This year when I throw a pick, most of the time it's just my fault plain and simple. I'm twice as good a runner as I am a passer and that doesn't say a whole lot. In the earlier games, with the way the game was set up, I could go 75% no problem. And I should never be throwing 75% unless I have a superstar QB and it's up against a terrible team.
The running game feels pretty fluid. I have to remind myself that I'm running with Joe McKnight a lot of the time, so the juking and cutback ability makes running the ball a lot easier. The computer managed to run the ball well which was nice to see.
In my game against Arizona I recorded 5 sacks and also forced a lot of throws. I was under decent pressure most of the game and Arizona came away with 2 sacks and 5 hurries.
I won 29-24 in a fairly intense game. I had to focus the entire time which is what really made the game enjoyable for me.

Edit: Also, pursuit is improved. I'll still see a defender back off a little bit, but for the most part the computer runs to the ball like it should. The opposing defense doesn't just escort my Rb to the endzone when I bounce it. They actually close in a lot better then the were before.

I haven't tried these yet - but I will. My question, though, is about the D AWR at 0. The defense already plays like morons, doesn't AWR at 0 make it worse? Or does the Heisman level compensate for this?

Re: Night Owl Dynasty Sliders - Sim Style

                        Hey guys,

Sorry been busy with online dynasty stuff...

The run/pass numbers are not true to what the cpu will actually do.
For example, if you set the slider at 50/50 then you would expect a equal amount of runs and passes. This will not happen, you will see 80% passing. It's been this way since the original xbox. So when you set a team to 80% run, they are not going to actually run the ball 80% of the time. Jukeman compensated for this broken slider with these 'funky' looking numbers, but they do work well.

About D AWR at zero... On heisman I couldn't tell a big difference in the passing game no matter where I set D Awr. Now it did have a big effect on the running game for both human and cpu, so zero just felt right to me. Also creating the sliders this way makes it easy to up the difficulty by simply adding a few ticks upward to the D awr slider. We are in week three of our dynasty and so far no complaints, the guys are having good games. I haven't made any changes to the sliders.

                        Thanks

You move the run/pass slider to the left? Wouldn't that reverse what you're trying to accomplish? I'm confused. Or maybe the heat has simply melted my brain. Someone set me straight.

Think of it like you are moving the bar towards the run. Run is to the left, pass is to the right. The more to the left, the more run. The percentages are backwards. If you want the team to run the ball 75% of the time, you'll shift the slider left to 25%.
