With 2025 in full swing, we have a better idea of what the year’s release schedule will look like. Announcements are still to come, but we have plenty of sports games that have confirmed 2025 release dates.
On top of the usual annual fare, there are a ton of racing games that are coming in 2025, and there are also plenty of original and unique sports games coming out this year.
All Sports Games Releasing In 2025
Rugby 25 – February 13, 2025
We’ve been waiting a while for news on Rugby 25, but it was finally released on February 13, 2025. Having been delayed multiple times over the last few years, often at the very last second, rugby fans have been keen to jump in.
First impressions haven’t been positive, but we’re excited to try it out for ourselves. The developers are calling it “the most comprehensive rugby video game ever made” with over 140 international teams playable, as well as 150 local club teams.
PGA Tour 2K25 – February 28, 2025
The first major sports release of 2025, the PGA Tour 2K series returns for its 2025 entry in an attempt to make folks forget that EA’s PGA Tour game ever existed. The new entry boasts dramatically improved visuals, new pros to play as, and altered swing mechanics. You can read our preview for our full thoughts on the game, but we were impressed by the changes.
PGA Tour 2K25 will launch on February 28, 2025 with an early access launch for the premium version coming a week earlier. You can also play a first-look demo now to decide whether you like the mechanical changes enough to make the full purchase.
WWE 2K25 – March 14, 2025
The first annual sports release of 2025 arrives on March 14, 2025. WWE 2K25 is aiming to continue the series’ streak of strong entries with a bunch of new features, many of which you can read about in our hands-on preview.
This year, the Showcase mode is focused on The Bloodline Dynasty, with Paul Heyman providing the introductions. Elsewhere, a new Island mode, Underground matches, and the ability to play any intergender matchups complete the suite of new features.
Out Of The Park Baseball 26 – March 14, 2025
For the hardcore baseball fans among you, who are looking for a more data-focused baseball game than the MLB The Show games, the 26th edition of Out Of The Park Baseball releases in March.
This year’s game has some great new features, including the addition of World Baseball Classic, and an all-new player development system. The new system features progress bars to provide improved clarity and to allow you to track your players even more closely. Interestingly, it’s also releasing in the same week as the more high-profile MLB The Show game.
MLB The Show 25 – March 18, 2025
Another annual sports release is also on tap for March. MLB The Show 25 is due for release on March 18, 2025. Ahead of release, the developers have released a full breakdown of everything new that’s coming to the series this year.
First of all, new fielding mechanics are being introduced along with Ambush Hitting. In addition, ShowTech adds hundreds of new animations to the game, and Diamond Dynasty is being expanded with a new Diamond Quest mode, which is board game-inspired.
Sports Renovations – March 27, 2025
The first original sports game of 2025 is Sports Renovations. However, it’s more about sports rather than an actual sports game. It’s a story-driven game in which you work to renovate decaying and broken sports facilities.
If you’ve played Powerwash Simulator, you’ll understand the vibe Sports Renovations is going for. You can sit back and relax and work to make everything look pretty. The attraction comes from the process of taking something ugly or destroyed and making it look nice again. You’ll be able to see your progress as you go, making it look pretty over time.
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road – TBC June, 2025
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road is a strange mix of JRPG, Ultimate Team, and anime. Based on a popular football anime, it sees you build and train a team after picking from a few thousand different characters from the series.
There’s an original story to play through, in the style of Golf Story, and you can even play online. It’ll be interesting to see how the single-player aspects and online competitive matches play into each other. You’ll be able to check it out for yourself once Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road releases in June 2025 after having been delayed multiple times in recent years.
Skate. – TBC Early Access 2025
The long-awaited Skate reboot is due to launch into some form of early access in 2025. We haven’t seen much from the game beyond teaser trailers and alpha footage, but closed player tests have been underway for a while.
All fans are hoping for is a competent Skate game that recaptures the magic of the original series. That’s not much to ask, is it? No release date of any kind has been announced, beyond a planned test release this year.
Rematch – TBC 2025
Revealed at The Game Awards at the end of 2024, Rematch is a football game with a unique perspective. It is a competitive-play focused, 5v5 game played in third-person from behind the player you’re controlling.
Interestingly, it’s being developed by Sloclap, the studio behind the likes of Sifu and Absolver. Going from intense action games to sports games is somewhat of a departure for such a talented studio, but we know for sure that Rematch will be stylish at the very least. It doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but it’s due to launch sometime in 2025 and has a planned beta set for this summer.
Football Manager 26 – TBC 2025
Until recently, we expected Football Manager 25 to release in a matter of weeks. Following a delay late in 2024, this season’s edition was due to launch in March 2025. However, that version has now been cancelled entirely, with fans now having to wait until the 2025-26 season’s game at the end of this year.
We don’t know yet quite what new features the next game will include, since that’s all up in the air for now. We expect it’ll include everything that was due to be added to last year’s game, with a few extra things on top. Due to it having an extra year in the oven, we expect Football Manager 26 (should it actually come out) to be the best entry in the series for a long time.
Skate Story – TBC 2025
Originally due to release in 2023, Skate Story is finally due to release in 2025. It’s an original skateboarding game set in a strange world where you need to take on bosses. While there’s a lot more to it than skating, the mechanics of the sport are the core of the gameplay.
The player character is a strange crystal-like person who’s been given a skateboard by the devil. If they skate their way to the moon, the devil will free them. It’s a unique take on the sport and will make for an interesting departure from the simulations we are used to.
EA Sports UFC 6 – TBC 2025
It’s not certain that it’ll release in 2025, but we have confirmation that EA Sports UFC 6 is in the works. Jon Anik confirmed on SDAWGSMMATALK that the team has started to record voiceovers for the game already.
That’s all we know about the game so far. Nothing has been revealed or leaked about what new features might come to the game. Hopefully we’ll see it released later this year, with more information to come during the summer.
Annual Sports Game Titles – TBC 2025
While not officially revealed, College Football 26, EA Sports FC 26, Madden 26, NBA 2K26, and NHL 26 are all expected to be released at some point in 2025.
Madden, College Football, NHL, FC, and NBA should all be released between the end of August and the middle of October, as they usually do, with release date confirmation expected in the summer. As usual, each game will likely receive some visual upgrades, a new mode or two, and some quality-of-life improvements.
