After a one-day delay, MLB The Show 25 finally dropped its April Showers Diamond Quest map on Wednesday. But is it worth doing?
Diamond Quest has quickly become one of the most popular modes available in MLB The Show 25‘s Diamond Dynasty mode. Though I wasn’t too hot on it when the game was released, I’ve learned to enjoy it as time has gone on. Plus, it’s an excellent way to get high-value rewards for some much-needed Stubs on the marketplace. That said, I haven’t done all of them.
When the game came out, I pretty much skipped the first Diamond Quest map, which gave players a 79-rated Juan Soto and an 80-rated Aaron Judge. I get it — they were 20th Anniversary cards that could’ve been used for the 20th Anniversary collection. But I wasn’t going to play Mini Seasons to get the CC Sabathia card, nor was I gonna dump my Stubs on the other cards.
I know this sounds like rambling right now, but my overarching point is this: You don’t have to get every single card that comes out. Even though Diamond Dynasty is infinitely better than most other card-collecting, Ultimate Team-type modes out there, it is still a card-collecting, Ultimate Team-type mode. And its driving force is “FOMO.” (That would be “fear of missing out” for the uncs out there)
That brings me to the most recent April Showers Diamond Quest map and whether or not it’s worth doing. But before we get to that, what rewards does the April Showers Diamond Quest map provide players who participate?

As far as cards go, April Showers offers two: An 88-rated Shane McClanahan and an 88-rated Anthony Rizzo. They are both Epic rewards and will likely require players to play the Stadium Challenges on high difficulties in order to have a good chance of earning them. As far as the Rare rewards go, they are Ballin’ Is a Habit packs. Obviously, there will be more packs sprinkled in there. But these are the best rewards on offer.
So, is it worth doing? The answer is an admittedly obtuse one: It depends.
Look, if you love Rizzo — the one that won a historical World Series with the Chicago Cubs and not the shell of Rizzo that was on the Yankees for the past few seasons — then yes, you should absolutely do it. I’m not even going to factor in McClanahan because, to be frank, he’s not very good. None of his per-9 attributes eclipse 90, and his pitch mix is god awful and contains neither a sinker nor a cutter.
Additionally, neither of these cards is going for big Stubs on the market. At the time of writing, Rizzo is going for close to 6000, while McClanahan is going for just under 5000. And considering the map just dropped yesterday, these prices will only go down from here until they are near Quick Sell levels.
If you absolutely need stubs and a few packs, then yeah, the April Showers Diamond Quest campaign won’t hurt. But if you’re good on Stubs and already have your starting rotation and first base sorted, then I don’t see it as more than a waste of your time.
Instead, get into Ranked and get some swings in so you can be ready for Weekend Classic.
