After a recent deep dive, we now have more information on how new features like Ambush Hitting will work in MLB The Show 25. But hitting isn’t the only in-game mechanic that is being added onto this year. Fielding seems to be getting a facelift in the latest entry, too.
But just how will fielding differ from years past in the series’ latest iteration? Here are the new features when it comes to fielding in MLB The Show 25.
New Fielding Mechanics In MLB The Show 25
Infielder Reaction Times

One of the biggest selling points that MLB The Show 25 has marketed this year is ShowTech. Apparently, ShowTech is a system that is introducing a litany of new animations into the game. Three of these new animations will be emphasized when it comes to the infield.
For MLB The Show 25, San Diego Studio has created three different animations that will provide either a boost or a penalty to infielders depending on their reaction time. Infielders with a great reaction attribute will consistently trigger the best animation, indicated by blue arrows. Other possible outcomes include the average reaction indicated by a green arrow, and a poor reaction indicated by a red arrow.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how this will effect gameplay considering reactions have always been an important part of the defense in MLB The Show, especially at positions such as shortstop or center field. But it’s being advertised as a “gamechanger”, so I guess it serves to wait and see if it will make a difference.
Home Run Rob Meter

In past years, MLB The Show has given players the ability to rob home runs based on arrows that gradually turn green as the ball gets closer. This year, SDS has replaced this function with a meter that… makes robbing home runs easier, I guess?
The new system rewards players who can time their catch by pressing the jump button once the meter enters the green. It seems easy enough when described this way, but it does make me fear that robbing home runs will be more common. And truth be told, that’s not something I feel the game needs. This feels like something that will be nerfed with the first big patch, but I’m open to being wrong about that.
Throw Accuracy Meter

OK, now for a feature I am quite looking forward to.
In MLB The Show 25, SDS is introducing a new throw meter that should provide a bigger challenge, even for seasoned players. In years past, the the throwing meter has been divided into three different different colors: Green, yellow, and red, with a perfect throw being in the middle of the meter. Green throws were always good, yellow throws were unpredictable, and red throws were automatic errors.
This year, SDS has added a new facet to this system with the blue-timed throw. As opposed to a throw that lines up perfectly in the center now being a perfect throw, the blue part of the meter will be just after the green. This means that fielders can either keep things safe and simply resort to a green-timed throw, or they can risk being wild in order to get a perfect throw. This should be fun online in close games when you have a bang-bang play at the plate.
