iRacing has just released details for the updates for Season 2. iRacing fans have high expectations and a long list of features they want to see in the game. This article will simplify and highlight the key features of the upcoming season.
Overall, there are some good additions to the latest season and some key issues addressed. However, iRacing fans will always want more as the game has a range of different types of racing. This means not every race format will get a complete overhaul or new cars added to its roster.
New Cars
ARCA Menards Series
The biggest update in terms of new cars comes from a new ARCA Menards Series vehicle, which has been completely redesigned in terms of its physics and appearance.
The ARCA Menards Series (Automobile Racing Club of America) is a stock car racing series that leads drivers and teams into the NASCAR series. In iRacing, the ARCA Menards Series features a fixed set-up format, allowing drivers to focus on their racing and strategic skills instead of worrying about car tuning.
The new ARCA Menards Series car will dispel the need for the previous car in iRacing, which is being removed from the game. To combat this, iRacing is gifting the previous owners’ iRacing Credits to people with the old model. The amount of Credits you get will be based on how long you have owned the car.
Legends Ford 34c
The popular Legends Ford 34c is also getting a big upgrade that completely changes the physics and design of the Ford 34c.
The Legends Ford 34c is a beautiful car that is equally as enjoyable to drive. An update of this car will bring racers back to experiencing this driving experience.
As the Legends Ford 34c was featured in the base content package, there will be no need to replace credits like in the example above.
Game Physics
Tire Update for GTP and LMP2 Cars
In the last update, we saw a complete redesign of the tires for these cars. After consideration, these updates are getting revamped to more accurately portray real-life racing. iRacing is using real-world data to make these changes and even consult real racing drivers.
The most notable differences from these updates will be how the cars handle the corners and how the tires are when coming out of the pits. The latter issue is dependent on tire temperature, and, like in real life, tire temperature is extremely important in high-speed racing.
iRacing suggests it will be such a change from what players are used to that they recommend drivers hop into test sessions before taking to racing.
This update will take part in 2 phases, and the second phase will be released in Season 3.
New Tracks/Track Features
Portland International Raceway
From the Pacific Northwest of the USA, the Portland International Raceway is being added to the iRacing roster. It’s a 1.9-mile track that hosts a wide range of different racing series.
As a fun track that will have several different configurations, this is a welcome addition to iRacing, and we can’t wait to see how the track handles in the game.
3D Curbs
In addition to the true-to-life promise that iRacing offers, they are now adding 3D curbs for several tracks. These tracks include Jerez, Aragon, Sandown, VIR, Winton, Rudskogen, and Hockenheim. Potentially, Barcelona and Road America will also be added later.
3D curbs will make the track look and feel much more realistic. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference this addition will make.
Other Features
Debris Refresh
Season 2 will also see Phase 2 for the new Debris Refresh system. We will see new additions to the debris rendering and dynamic modeling. Also, we get the new local debris cautions when driving.
Connection Flag Issue
There has always been an issue with drivers who have bad connections. For people with good connections, you can get cars that disappear and reappear as connection comes and goes for the poorly connected drivers.
iRacing addresses this issue by giving these drivers a Connection Flag so they know their connection is interfering with the race. These drivers will then be sent back to the pits to wait for a better connection. They will then have the option of disconnecting from the race or setting out again once the issues have improved.
Adaptive AI
This feature may or may not be ready for the release in Season 2. iRacing has been working on adapting its AI racers to different driving situations to provide a more realistic racing experience.
Adaptive AI will allow players to customize the difficulty of the other drivers on the track. These options range between easy, medium, hard, and extreme. The special aspect is that the system will adapt to you, so one player’s Hard may be another’s Medium.
Lighting Model
A new lighting model is being introduced in Season 2. This will add a whole new dimension to every existing track, making them feel much more realistic. This lighting model affects not just the track but also how the light reacts with different cars.
