Rocket League is approaching its 10th anniversary later in 2025, but it still doesn’t feel like the car soccer game has been out for that long. It’s certainly evolved over the years, however, with the developers at Psyonix starting as a borderline indie studio and skyrocketing into an acquisition with Epic Games. While everyone still uses the Octane all these years later, Rocket League certainly isn’t the same game it was 10 years ago.
In total, Rocket League has had over 30 seasons since its launch in September 2015. However, the number of seasons differs. The earlier seasons also lasted much longer than they do now, as the developers have managed to pump out more content in less time as the game has grown.
If you’re curious about the history behind Rocket League or you want to know the current trend of season length, check out the guide below to see every season’s start and end date since 2015.
Rocket League Season Start And End Dates

As mentioned above, Rocket League seasons have seen much shorter life cycles in the 2020s than they did in the 2010s. This is mainly due to the fact that Rocket League went free-to-play in 2020 and was acquired by Epic Games, allowing the developers at Psyonix to have access to plenty of additional resources. While the seasons are shorter in length, they deliver a plethora of gameplay content and more cosmetics than ever before.
The way seasons are split up in Rocket League is into the legacy and free-to-play eras of the game. The legacy seasons stopped in 2020 to make way for the free-to-play era, and when this happened, the season count restarted. This means there have technically been two Season 1s in Rocket League, which can be a little confusing.
However, as long as you know the dates of the different seasons, you’ll know what era every season is a part of. You can see the start and end dates of every Rocket League season below:

As you can see, there have already been several more free-to-play seasons than legacy seasons, even though the legacy era lasted for a little bit longer to this point. This is due to the free-to-play era having much shorter seasons.
On average, legacy seasons lasted anywhere from three to six months. On the other hand, the free-to-play era has seen a major cutdown on the waiting time between new seasons. Usually, new Rocket League seasons today only last for roughly three months, but some delays have occurred where a season lasts for longer than that.
When Is The Next Rocket League Season Going To Start?

If we’re going by the current trend of the free-to-play era in Rocket League, we can likely expect Season 18 to begin in June of 2025. Season 17 began on March 5, and previous seasons in the free-to-play era that started in March always ended in early June.
Rocket League seasons also usually start on Wednesdays. With this in mind, we can likely expect Season 18 to begin on either June 4 or June 11 of 2025. Of course, delays could occur, and the developers can always change up the trend on the fly. However, for now, that’s roughly when you can expect Season 17 to end and Season 18 to launch.
That’s all we have on the history and future of Rocket League seasons.
