Roman Reigns Vs. Cody Rhodes – WrestleMania 40

No Bloodline story would be complete without the legendary match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. A rematch from the previous WrestleMania’s main event, Rhodes finally “finished the story” and won the WWE Championship by defeating Reigns in a highly dramatic Bloodline Rules match which featured cameos from John Cena, The Rock, and The Undertaker.

Though Reigns was on the losing side of history at WrestleMania 40, it’s such a huge part of his journey and played a massive part in his babyface turn that would come over the summer. An

Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins – Royal Rumble 2022

The Roman Reigns-Seth Rollins rivalry has over a decade’s worth of history behind it. Originally starting as stablemates in The Shield back in 2012, Reigns and Rollins’ partnership dissolved after the latter abruptly betrayed the group and turned heel in 2014. And ever since, the two have tangled with one another on a countless amount of occasions.

One of their most talked-about matches occurred at Royal Rumble 2022 in the thick of Reigns’ historical 1,316-day reign as World Champion. In an effort to throw the Tribal Chief off of his game, Rollins entered through the crowd, dressed in his full Shield getup whilst the stable’s entrance music played.

The trickery worked to a degree, with Rollins picking up the win via disqualification after Reigns refused to acknowledge a rope break during a submission hold. But due to the “champion’s advantage”, the title didn’t switch hands.

WWE 2K25 will allow you to relive this iconic moment which set the table for the spectacle that was WrestleMania 40 two years later.

The Usos Vs. The New Day – Hell In A Cell 2017

Before the formation of the Bloodline in 2020, the Usos — made up of twin brothers Jey and Jimmy — were already seasoned veterans of the WWE tag team division. And in 2017, the duo faced one of their biggest challenges en route to becoming one of the most decorated tag teams in pro wrestling history in a grueling Hell in a Cell match against the New Day.

For months, the Usos had chased the New Day in an effort to become the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions, but had fallen short a number of times. But the duo would finally reign supreme when they would face New Day’s Xavier Woods and Big E, winning in their typical high-flying fashion.

While it may seem small when compared to other huge moments in the Bloodline story, the Usos’ big win over one of WWE’s most popular tag teams at the time played an important role in giving them credibility as part of the most dominant faction pro wrestling has ever seen.

Umaga Vs. John Cena – New Year’s Revolution 2007

Before Roman Reigns, the Usos, and other members of the Bloodline had even made their WWE debuts, other members of the Anoa’i family tree were already making their mark upon WWE’s main event scene. One such person was Umaga, who had a really strong run with WWE in the mid-to-late-2000s.

Known as the Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga was seen consistently laying opponents to waste throughout 2006 until he would finally get his chance against WWE Champion and company golden boy John Cena at New Year’s Revolution.

Umaga would ultimately fall short to the indomitable Cena via roll-up in the match up. But to this day, it remains one of the first examples of a member of the Anoa’i family being treated as a top guy in WWE, setting the table (wink wink) for what Reigns would become over a decade later. For this reason, it makes sense why it’s included in the Bloodline Showcase.

Yokozuna Vs. Hulk Hogan – King Of The Ring 1993

Image: 2K

Almost every bit of major success the Bloodline has had can be traced back to Yokozuna, who’s run in the early 90’s marked the first time a member of the Anoa’i family had become WWE (then-WWF) Champion. And the first of his two reigns with WWE’s top prize came to be at King of the Ring 1993.

Mixing it up with the legendary Hulk Hogan, Yokozuna established himself as a top monster heel in the contest, consistently stifling Hogan’s offense and resilient spirit. In typical Hogan fashion, Yokozuna won the belt in a controversial finish via outside interference from his manager, Harvey Wippleman. But Yoko’s reign would be a strong one, as he’d go on to hold the WWE Championship for nine months before dropping it to Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

This moment in time set the benchmark for the Anoa’i family in terms of achieving main event success, and you can replay it in WWE 2K25.
