Face scans have long been a part of the MLB The Show series. They give players the chance to upload a selfie and have their likeness imagined on a created player in the Road to the Show mode. This way, instead of trying to create a player that looks just like them through the character creator, the selfie does all the work for them. However, there was some fear about face scans being a cut feature prior to the launch of MLB The Show 25.
The entire face scan feature has rarely worked correctly for fans, and we didn’t see too much marketing on the feature. With Road to the Show being one of MLB The Show‘s most popular modes, this didn’t instill fans with confidence and many are concerned face scans could be gone altogether.
Well, with MLB The Show 25 now out, we can confirm whether or not face scans are gone in the guide below.
Can You Face Scan In MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show?

Fortunately, even though the face scan feature wasn’t talked about much leading up to MLB The Show 25’s release date, it’s still available in Road to the Show. The process works the same as it always has, with you needing to download the MLB The Show Companion App, link your accounts together, and then upload a selfie.
Using that selfie, the game automatically creates a character with your facial features that you can use in Road to the Show. This saves you the trouble of having to go through every minute detail in the character creator, which can take time away from your baseball journey.
However, if you’re playing during the early access portion of MLB The Show 25 (March 14-18), then you won’t have access to the face scan feature right away. The MLB The Show Companion App won’t update to include MLB The Show 25 until a couple of days after early access has been released. So if you want to upload a selfie and create a character with your facial features in Road to the Show, you’ll have to wait.
Of course, if you’re playing MLB The Show 25 on its worldwide release date, you shouldn’t have to worry about that. The only thing you might have to worry about is the Companion App actually getting your facial features correct from the selfie you uploaded. The face scan has been notorious for messing up and making player’s faces contorted and not anything close to their selfie.
How To Face Scan In MLB The Show 25

With the face scan feature confirmed to return in MLB The Show 25, we can cover how to use it when you make a new Road to the Show player. The steps to use face scans are listed below:
- Launch MLB The Show 25 and select the Road to the Show mode from the main menu by scrolling down
- Make a new Road to the Show character and go through the character creation process until you can edit your appearance
- On this screen, you can click a box labeled “Face Scan,” which gives you a QR code to scan
- You now need to download the MLB The Show Companion App on your mobile device if you don’t already have it
- Sign into your console account on the app and make sure it’s the same account you have MLB The Show 25 purchased on
- Once you’re all linked, take a selfie using the app. Ensure you have good lighting and get your full face included in the picture
- After you’re satisfied with the selfie, upload it on the app and you should be able to see your selfie realized on your created player in MLB The Show 25
- From here, you can continue to edit your character’s appearance, which includes your general info, looks, equipment, and batting stance
As I previously mentioned, there are definitely some quirks with the face scan feature. It doesn’t always get your likeness correct when it converts your selfie to a created player’s face. However, you can upload new selfies until you get it right if you want to ensure your character looks as close to you as possible.
You can also change your selfie after you have created your character in Road to the Show. This is done by going to the main menu in RTTS, press R1/RB to swap tab sections, and then click “Appearance.” From here, you can fully change anything about your character’s appearance, which includes uploading a new selfie through the MLB The Show 25 Companion App. You can also swap batting stances, equipment styles, and other appearance features. Essentially, you’re never locked into your character’s appearance in Road to the Show.
And that’s everything we have on the face scan feature and how to use it in MLB The Show 25. It’s never going to be a smooth feature to use, but at least it’s not gone this year.
