The half-and-half concept (offline and online challenges) for most of the player programs and missions this year has been fine for me — online missions are faster and worth more points than offline stuff a lot of the time, so I don’t mind sharing time between offline and online portions of Diamond Dynasty. I basically just do the “easiest” offline moments and missions, and fill in the gaps with the online stat missions. That being said, it’s fair to say true “offline” content has been lacking this year for MLB The Show 20‘s DD mode. There is absolutely an audience who does not want to play people online at all. So we went from having too many absurd collectibles missions one year to then not having enough reason to grind an offline team and use it for challenges in these past couple seasons. Now the pendulum swings a little back the other way here with the All-Timers Program.
All-Timers Program Breakdown
In a strictly offline program, you’re going to be grinding out shortened games against the NL, AL and then top MLB teams. You will beat every NL and AL All-Timers team on All-Star in 3-inning DD games. From there, you have the MLB games on HOF difficulty that are 6-inning games. You will need to beat each division, then the AL, NL and finally the MLB All-Timers in a 9-inning game.
The only real downside of this Babe Ruth player program is that “moments” do not give you innings for Team Affinity. So while you’ll get XP, stubs and program rewards, you can’t grind out TA points as well as you go. I do think SDS should change that up in missions where it asks you to use your DD squad, but it’s a minor complaint.
The final reward in the All-Timers Program is the 99 overall MVP Babe Ruth. But there are three other high-rated cards you will earn along the way as well: 95 overall Gold Glove Evan Longoria, 96 overall Signature Series Trevor Hoffman, 99 overall Cy Young Tom Seaver.
The Tom Seaver card I think is the only other “must have” card in this group of four. Longoria is probably behind a stacked group of 3B even with the amazing fielding stats. The Signature Series Hoffman is a good card, but he might even fall behind some other relievers right now since the changeup/fastball combo is not as deadly as some other combos in the game this year. However, Seaver has a great motion and a good pitch mix, and then obviously Ruth is one of the best hitters you can get if you grind all the way to the end.
