In Football Manager 2024, getting the best out of your players is literally the name of the game. While a lot of this comes to down to simple things such as using players to their strengths, maintaining a good locker room atmosphere, and making good signings, another key element to the puzzle will be knowing how to train your players.
When you first create a save in Football Manager 2024, the game will automatically provide you training schedules. But, as sports gamers know all too well, the stock options provided by the game are seldom good enough and will require some manual intervention. But how should players go about creating a decent training regimen that will extract the most of the players at your disposal? Here are the best training schedules in Football Manager 2024.
Best Training Schedules In Football Manager 2024
Before we move on to the training schedules you should be using, you need to know how to create one first. Once you open or start your save, do the following:
- Click on Training
- Click on the Schedules tab
- From the dropdown menu in the top left of the Schedules tab, select Create New Schedule
From here, you’ll be able to start creating your custom training schedule.
Preseason Training Schedule
As with any football season, the first thing you should do is create a training schedule for your preseason. Your team’s preseason training schedule should be based around the most intense training possible as this will ensure that your players will be able to cope with the wear and tear that comes with a full season as best they can.
To make this preseason setup work, be sure to base it around a consistent match day. I prefer Saturday, as it allows me to essentially set up an entire week’s training regimen in chronological order. The tried and tested method that has worked for a majority of the FM community seems to be exclusively doing Endurance, Resistance, and Quickness training from Monday to Thursday (as seen in the image above). On Friday, do One-On-Ones training and Match Tactics as they will provide a bit of a break for players the day before their friendly. For Sunday, you should select Recovery, Match Review, and Team Bonding as that will help refresh players, build team cohesion, and improve the squad dynamics.
If your team has automatically scheduled friendly matches, cancel them immediately and schedule them all for Saturday. Use your team’s schedule as a baseline for how long preseason training should go. Upon arriving to the week where your season is scheduled to start, transition to some more conventional training.
Speaking of which…
Standard Training Schedule
Now that you’ve finished preseason, it’s time to start creating a training schedule for the actual season. A lot of this comes down to personal preference as every virtual football manager will have their own style of play and points of emphasis. Yes, some of these practices are non-negotiable if you want your players to have the best chance of getting through training without getting injured. But overall, you should be using this as a guide rather than a manifesto.
That said, your second day of weekly training should be the most intense. I prefer to focus on some light direct attacking training and team bonding on Monday. Come Tuesday, I go all out by scheduling General Attacking, Play from the Back, and Set Piece Routines training. On Monday and Wednesday, it’s best to end your training sessions with Recovery as opposed to Rest. In my experience, Recovery offers way more benefits and has less tradeoffs than the Rest option, which should really only be used the day after a match. One last thing — be sure to change up your training schedule from week to week. If you focused on attacking one week, it’d probably be best your focus on defending the next.
In the case of a congested match week, it’s OK to reduce the training intensity to prevent injuries. For instance, if you have games on Wednesday and Saturday, make sure each training day’s intensity doesn’t go above dark green. You can see the intensity of each training exercise below the day where you create your schedule.
These are the best training schedules in Football Manager 2024. Here’s hoping that star wonderkid doesn’t pull a hammy when practicing their set piece routines.
