Which College Legends Do You Want to See in EA Sports College Football 25?

While the main focus for EA Sports College Football 25 has been on the real college players coming to the game for the first time ever, we do know legends of the college game will be available as well. But who do we hope to see?

OS user f1sh1000 was thinking about this and started a thread on the topic. How college legends get implemented into the game is up in the air to this point, and I think that’s almost as interesting a question as who makes it into the game. Ultimate Team did exist in NCAA Football 14, but it has evolved quite a bit since that time. However, that particular area is not as interesting because we know how that formula plays out for UT.

Beyond that, we know player editing and roster customization won’t be as flexible as in those past games, so how many legends we can create and share is a little up in the air right now. If it’s restricted more than even we expect, classic teams and legends become EA’s problem to an extent, and while I don’t want to give EA more ways to charge us for things, I do think the college football gamer is going to be different from the NFL gamer. Dynasty mode is going to be played more than franchise mode. With that in mind, single-player experiences that can be kept fresh in other ways is important.

This topic is not the main focus of this article, but I do think it’s something to talk about at some point. Ultimate Team’s reputation across all sports games (including MyTeam, Diamond Dynasty etc.) is in the dumpster, and I don’t think the Ultimate Team model is the “right” one anyway from a money-making standpoint for EA Sports College Football 25.

Anyway, getting back to a more fun topic, what legends make sense? For me, I like where f1sh1000 went with the topic.

I think something that could be fun with this game would be the inclusion of College Football Legends, but not the typical guys that made it big in the NFL. Players like Ryan Leaf, Ki-Jana Carter, Rashaan Salaam — these would be super fun inclusions as guys that were all fantastic college football players, but you probably won’t see in a Madden.

And we did see this to some extent with NCAA Football 14, but obviously there is so much more you could do here. OS user thescoop mentioned guys like Charlie Ward, Ken Dorsey, and Kordell Stewart as other names. Most of these dudes did end up in the NFL in one way or another, but the point would be that it’s not just the Barry Sanders of the world. I think that people obviously want those guys as well, but it’s not the only draw.

We know Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel will be hot names in this same way, but the idea of legend teams is something we’ve gotten away from over the years in football games, but it feels so ripe to come back. Whether it’s an All-FSU team headlined by Peter Warrick, Deion Sanders, and Charlie Ward or maybe something even more creative in terms of team construction, it’s a new playground that obviously just has to deal with being a licensing minefield.

More than anything, I think this topic has been a reminder about how fun some of these players were in college. Like, yeah, I haven’t thought about Ron Dayne in forever, but it would be great to see him in the game just trucking dudes.

Keep the names coming in the thread, and let’s hope EA has some plans for these legends that don’t just involve Ultimate Team.
