EA FC 25: How to Improve Shooting Accuracy, Explained

Aim. Shoot. Score

If you strip down EA FC to its core, it’s all about scoring goals and ensuring the other person doesn’t. Be it offline couch-play, division rivals, or local tournaments, the only way you’ll win is by banging in goals. However, if your shooting technique isn’t on point, you won’t be able to do that, costing you every game.

If you can build up a successful attack but can’t convert it into a goal, chances are that you’re using the wrong shooting mechanic. So, in this article, we’ll explain how to become better at finishing in EA FC 25. From chip shots to trivelas, we’ll cover everything to make you a better striker.

Kinds Of Shots In EA FC 25

Standard Shot

  • Circle for PS
  • B for Xbox

Before moving on to the advanced techniques, let’s take a look at the standard shot. This is the most common way to finish in EA FC 25. To execute a standard shot, you’ll just need to press the designated shooting button on your controller. While this is nothing fancy, the standard shot is the one you’ll be using the most, so you should practice it to perfection.

To make sure that you’re making the most from it, you need to get the aim and power right. If you’re using assisted aiming, all you’ll need to do is aim towards either side of the goal. However, if you’re using precision aiming, a small white arrow will appear while shooting, and you’ll need to be more precise. Both these techniques have their pros and cons:

  • Assisted shooting doesn’t require being extremely precise with the aim, but the shots can be weak.
  • Precision shooting requires you to be precise with the aim, but if you get it right, the power and accuracy of the shots are enhanced.

While the final choice depends on you, if you’re starting, we recommend using assisted shooting. This way, all you need to worry about is the power of the shot. That said, to make sure all your shots always end up in the net, make sure you have adequate power behind them. If you’re using assisted shooting, you’ll need at least 3 bars of power when shooting from the edge of the box, and 2 – 2.5 bars of power when shooting inside the box. For the aim, just direct the ball towards either side of the goal, and you’ll be golden.

Finesse Shot

  • R1 + Circle
  • RB + B

The finesse shot is a more advanced shooting technique that adds more precision and curl to your shot. Currently, this is easily the most overpowered shot in the game. Whenever your player is at an angle and far from the goal, shooting with a finesse shot will increase your chances of scoring. To execute it, simply hold the right bumper of your controller and press the shooting button. This is best used when you’re shooting from the left or right edge of the box. However, even if your player is standing just outside the center of the box, using the finesse shot is the best way to ensure top bins.

That said, if your player has the finesse+ playstyle, the finesse shot will be enhanced even more, always ending up in the net. This is the reason that strikers with the finesse+ playstyle are so desirable in the market. The final thing to keep in mind is the power. If you’re shooting from range, you’ll have to give the shot adequate power. So, when you’re taking the shot from outside the box, power it up with at least 3 bars. However, if you’re shooting a finesse from the edge of the box, 2 – 2.5 bars of power will be enough. Like all other techniques, you’ll have to practice the finesse shot to get everything right. To do that, hop in the game, try the shot from different positions, and master the art of finesse.

Trivela

  • L2 + Circle
  • LT + Circle

The trivela is an outside foot shot, which can be deadly in some niche cases. Since it belongs to the flair shots category, you’ll need to hold the left trigger of your controller to execute it. Similar to the finesse shot, the trivela is extremely useful when shooting from range. Whenever your player is in a position where they’ll need to use their weaker foot to shoot, use the trivela instead. This way, instead of using their weaker foot, they’ll use the outside of their preferred foot to take the shot.

In terms of power, you should always power the trivela to 3 bars of power when shooting from a distance, and 2 – 2.5 bars of power when shooting inside the box. Additionally, just like the finesse playstyle, there is a trivela playstyle. So, any player with this playstyle will be exponentially better at taking the shot. Since the trivela lets you overcome your player’s weak foot, it’s a great shot to use and adds flair to the finish. However, in cases where the trivela isn’t necessary, we recommend giving priority to the finesse shot.

Chip Shot

  • L1 + Circle
  • LB + B

The chip shot, as the name suggests, chips the ball above the keeper. This is a situational shooting technique that should be used when the keeper is far from the goal line. For example, if you’re in a 1v1 with the keeper, and the opponent rushes their keeper at you, chip the ball above them to score.

Whenever you see the keeper overcommitting, using the chip shot is the best bet. However, keep in mind that this requires a ton of practice. This is because getting the power right on a chipshot is a bit difficult. Either you’ll put too much power, making the ball go above the crossbar, or put too little, making the shot too slow. If it’s the latter, the defender will clear the ball before it goes into the net. So, in either case, you won’t convert.

To get the power on the money, here’s what to do:

  • Put 2 bars of power when shooting from the edge of the box.
  • Put 1.5 bars of power when shooting inside the box.

That said, this is still situational, and the power will need to vary according to the case. If you want to achieve perfection every time, we recommend practicing the shot in offline games against the AI. This way, you can get a feel of the power and manage it accordingly.

Powershot

  • L1 + R1 + Circle
  • LB + RB + B

The Powershot has been a broken mechanic this year and always guarantees a goal if executed right. To activate the powershot, you’ll need to hold both the left and right bumpers of your controller. This will trigger a short animation where the camera will zoom in on your player. Once that happens, hold the shooting button to give the shot power and fire away.

While the Powershot has increased power compared to all other shots, its accuracy is reduced. So, you’ll have to take that into account while aiming. Also, keep in mind that aiming is completely manual in the Power Shot, and you won’t receive much assistance from the game. To get the aim perfect, you can follow these simple steps.

  • Start by aiming at the center of the goal.
  • Now, as your player is about to shoot, simply adjust the aim towards either of the top corners and let the ball fly.

Remember that once you activate the powershot, your player will be vulnerable for a bit due to the animation. However, if your player has the Powershot+ playstyle, this animation will be much shorter, allowing you to take the shot quickly. That said, the power shot is best used when your player has enough space to shoot. So, rather than activating the power shot in a cramped space, use it when you don’t have many defenders around your striker. In terms of power, give the shot 3 bars of power when shooting from more than 25 yards, and 2 bars when shooting from the edge of the box.

Headers

Headers have been a pain score this year due to EA nerfing them to the ground. In the beginning, headers worked like a charm and were a great way to score. However, ever since the patch, contested headers in the game have become almost impossible to score. Even though that’s the case, we’ve come up with various techniques to score from headers.

If your attacking method relies on pushing the attack from the wingers and sending crosses, we recommend reading our guide on how to score from headers. This will make sure that you convert the majority of your headers, both from crosses and corners.

Low Shot

  • Tap Circle
  • Tap B

Moving forward, we have the low shot. While the other mechanics are more catered towards shooting from a distance, the low shot is best for tight situations. For example, you just executed a great through ball, but the distance between you and the keeper is very short, and you need to quickly shoot. This is when the low shot will be your savior.

To execute a low shot, rather than holding the shooting button and adding power, simply tap it once. By doing so, your striker will finish with a low shot. The key feature of this shot is that when you’re really close to the keeper and play a low shot, the game’s AI gets bugged. This happens because the keeper tries to save the ball with their hands, and the ball crawls its way into the goal. So, whenever you find yourself in a similar situation, play the low shot and you’ll guarantee yourself a goal.

Tips To Improve Shooting In EA FC 25

Use timed Finishing

If there’s anything that can make your shooting better instantly, it’s timed finishing. Timed finishing adds another layer to your shooting in EA FC 25. While normally you would just press the shooting button. In timed finishing, once you press the shooting button, you’ll have to press it again just as your player is about to take the shot. In doing so, you can time your shot manually. Why do this? Well, if you achieve a green timed finish on your shot, the precision and power of the shot will be significantly increased, guaranteeing you a goal.

On the flip side, if you don’t time the shot correctly, the indicator will turn red, inducing an error in your shot. This makes it a high-risk, high-reward situation. That said, if you practice timed finishing and can get the timing right, this will be a major game-changer.

Once turned on, you can add a timed finish to all kinds of shots. However, if you don’t want to add a timed finish to all your shots, just shoot the shot as you normally would. This will make the indicator turn white, meaning that it’s just a normal shot with no timed finish. In total, there are four types of indicators in timed finishing.

  • Green (Perfect timing — your shot will have increased power, curl, and precision)
  • Yellow (Slightly Early — the shot can still go in, but it won’t be as precise)
  • Red (Too early — you might miss the target entirely)
  • White (Too late — has no effect on the shot)

To turn on timed finishing, follow these steps.

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Game Settings
  • In the Gameplay section, you’ll see Timed Finishing under Shooting, turn it on.

With timed finishing turned on, you should also turn on the indicator so you can see if you’ve timed the shot correctly. To turn it on, do this.

  • Make sure you’re in a match.
  • Pause the match.
  • Click on the Trainer.
  • Here, you’ll see the Timed Finishing Indicator, turn it on.

Now, you’ll have timed finishing turned on. Every time you take a shot, remember to press the shooting button once again just as your player is about to shoot. You’ll know if you’ve achieved the correct timing by the indicator appearing over your player. If you want to level up in division rivals or become a better player in general, learning this mechanic is key. To practice it, you can load up a classic game with the AI and put all your focus into achieving green timed finishes. Once you’re comfortable with timing, add timed finishing to all your shots to greatly increase your chances of scoring.

Keep Your Composure

Another key thing to keep in mind while finishing is to keep your composure. If you have the skills to build up a successful attack but can’t convert it into a goal, it’s because you’re letting the pressure get to you. Of course, getting into a penalty box with all the defenders pressuring you can be frantic. However, you need to keep your composure if you want to score.

Just remember that practice makes perfect. The more you practice, the more comfortable you’ll get with scoring situations. Once you’re able to control the pressure, you’ll know which shot to use in which situation and score more often.

Don’t Sleep On Finesse Shots

Finally, the last thing we want you to take away from this guide is to stop sleeping on finesse shots. This year, finesse shots have been extremely overpowered. It doesn’t matter if you’re shooting from left, right, or center; if you get the finesse shot right, you’re gonna end up scoring. To make sure you make the most out of finesse shots, get a player with the finesse+ playstyle.

Once you get your hands on a player with this playstyle, make them your key player in the game. Whenever you want to take a shot, try to take it with them. Build your attack around this player, and you’ll score without breaking a sweat. Remember, you can go a long way in EA FC if you know the meta. And this year, this is it.
