After showing off the ratings for the top offenses and defenses yesterday, seeing just the top 25 in another form is a little underwhelming since the phrasing made it seem like we would get ratings for all 130+ teams today. Still, this is another data point to see how the rosters will look on day one.

Coming off the offense and defense ratings, it does seem like the overall ratings are a little more inflated. There is less of a difference between 25 and 1, but it’s worth remembering how EA calculates overall ratings is tricky. If it’s anything like other EA football games, certain positions and certain individual players can really impact the team overall rating.

For that reason, I wouldn’t be too concerned about the overall ratings here. I would look more at the offense and defense ratings and then the individual player ratings when they come out.

Based on this list, we can also put together some early conference rankings, which is also a helpful way to remind ourselves of some of the realignment that has occurred:

  • SEC – Seven teams (Georgia, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oklahoma)
  • Big Ten – Six teams (Ohio St., Oregon, Penn St., Michigan, Wisconsin, USC, Iowa)
  • Big 12 – Five teams (Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Arizona, Oklahoma St.)
  • ACC – Five teams (Clemson, Florida St., Miami, Virginia Tech, NC State)
  • Independent – One team (Notre Dame)
