EA SPORTS FC 25: All 29 passing techniques explained

FC 25's mechanics are complex.

Today, we’re looking at all the 29 passing techniques in EA FC 25. Passing in EA FC is crucial to understand if you want to take your gameplay to the next level. Beginners can start with simple passing, but you will quickly realize the advantages of different passing techniques.

Different passing techniques in EA FC 25 will allow you to coordinate and execute your attacks exactly how you want. So, mastering passing techniques will give you a huge one-up over your opponents. Some passing techniques will even give you extra flare, adding more style to your tool bag.

Basic Passes

Basic Pass

The basic pass simply passes the ball directly to where your teammate is standing at the time of the pass. This passing technique is simple and quick. Use this pass when creating quick passes over short distances. Its disadvantage comes from quick counter attacks as the pass receiver will likely stop their run or slow down.

The longer you hold down the pass button, the more powerful this pass will be.

PS Controls: Press or hold the X-button.

Xbox Controls: Press or hold the A-button.

Through Ball

A well-executed through ball pass can guarantee goals. A through ball pass will place the ball ahead of the player you’re passing it to, allowing them to run onto the ball without losing speed. Make sure that you aren’t passing directly to the other team, though.

PS Controls: Press the triangle button.

Xbox Controls: Press the Y-button on Xbox.

Lob Pass

The last basic pass in EA FC 25 is the lob pass. A lob pass will pass the ball high enough to get over the other team, allowing you to switch the side of play without risking an interception. Like every pass, the longer you hold down the button, the more powerful the pass will be.

PS Controls: Press the square button.

Xbox Controls: Press the X-button.

Ground Passes

Lofted Ground Pass

The lofted ground pass is similar to the basic pass, but adds a little height. This can be effective if an opponent has the chance to intercept the ball. It is not foolproof though — if your opponent is standing right in the middle, they will easily intercept the ball.

The ball will raise just above knee-height. Watch out as players might take a bit longer to control the ball.

PS Controls: Double-tap X.

Xbox Controls: Double-tap A.

1-2 Pass

The 1-2 pass is an excellent passing technique to control your players’ actions when off the ball. A 1-2 pass will make your player (who performed the pass) run on and attack, calling for the ball quickly after it has left their feet. You will then want to pass again once the player has got the ball for quick, tiki-taka style play. A through ball may be the best pass option as a follow-up if you’re trying to get up the field quick.

PS Controls: Hold L1 while pressing X.

Xbox Controls: Hold LB while pressing A.

Driven Ground Pass

A driven ground pass is best when you want a powerful ground pass to accurately reach your teammate. Thanks to its speed, it will give you the best ground pass that will reduce the chances of interception.

PS Controls: Hold R1 while pressing X.

Xbox Controls: Hold RB while pressing A.

Driven 1-2 Pass

Now we can start thinking about combining the passing techniques for more effective play. If we link the 1-2 and driven pass together, we get a strong first pass and our player continues to run on to call for the next ball.

PS Controls: Hold down L1 + R1 simultaneously while pressing X.

Xbox Controls: Hold down LB + RB simultaneously while pressing A.

Through Balls

Lofted Through Ball

A lofted through ball will give a little height to your through ball pass to help avoid being intercepted.

PS Controls: Double the through ball button (triangle).

Xbox Controls: Double tap the through ball button (Y).

Lob Through Ball

A lob through ball is a great way to chip the ball over a defender when setting up a goal-scoring opportunity. But it can also be just as effective in creating a counterattack. It will give you much more height than a lofted through ball. The height will be determined by the power you put in and how far away the receiver is.

PS Controls: Press L1 + triangle.

Xbox Controls: Press LB + Y.

Precision Through Ball

If you want more control over your through ball passes, use the precision through ball technique. It will be harder to master as the longer you hold down the pass, the further the ball will be placed in front of the receiver. So, this opens up more chances of passing to the other team.

Pro players love this as it allows faster players to run further before touching the ball. Players will always run slightly faster when they are not controlling the ball.

PS Controls: Press R1 + triangle.

Xbox Controls: Press RB + Y.

Precision 1-2 Through Ball

A precision through ball and 1-2 pass combination is great for getting more than one player to attack toward the goal. The precision through ball will get the receiver to run onto the ball while the 1-2 pass will ensure the player who initiated the pass also runs on.

This double-pronged attack will open up several options once you have executed it.

PS Controls: Press R1 + L1 while pressing triangle.

Xbox Controls: Press RB + LB while pressing Y.

Flair Passes

Flair Pass

If you’re looking for more style to enhance your gameplay, consider using a flair pass. Not only do they look cool, but they can speed up passes to different positions depending on the player’s direction. This is thanks to the one-touch passes that flare passes allow you to perform.

These passes have several different animations depending on the direction you are standing in relation to the player you want to pass the ball to.

PS Controls: Hold L2 while pressing X.

Xbox Controls: Hold LT while pressing Y.

Flair Through Ball

If you find yourself in a quick break, or have just made an interception, a flair through ball is a great way to quickly allow your teammate to run onto the ball.

A flair through ball is also a brilliant way to make a stylish setup for classy goals.

PS Controls: Press L2 + triangle.

Xbox Controls: Press LT + Y.

Lob Passes

High Lob Pass

EA FC 25 allows you to add more height to your lob passes. A passing technique like this can be helpful if you want to make a short pass and guarantee it gets over opponents who might intercept.

A high lob pass is likely to set the receiving teammate up for a header. So, it’s best to continue on to another pass, otherwise it could take this player a while to control.

PS Controls: Press L1 + square.

Xbox Controls: Press LB + X.

Precision Lob Pass

A precision lob pass is another excellent passing technique in EA FC 25 for pros. It allows you to pick exactly where you want your lob pass to fall. Like the precision through ball, this may be hard to master, but it opens a spectrum of possibilities.

PS Controls: Press R1 + square.

Xbox Controls: Press RB + X.

Driven Lob Pass

A driven lob pass does the opposite of a high lob pass: it reduces the height but makes for a faster pass. This passing technique covers wide distances quickly, so it’s ideal for switching between the wings.

PS Controls: L1 + R1 while pressing square.

Xbox Controls: LB + RB while pressing X.

Crossing

Crossing

To cross the ball into the box is the same button as a lob pass, but you must be near the opponent’s box to perform a proper cross.

A cross is different than a lob pass. The game prioritizes the ball’s falling position in the box over being dependent on the receiving teammate. But like all other passes, the distance is determined by how long you hold down the button.

PS Controls: Press/ hold square.

Xbox Controls: Press/ hold X.

Low Cross

Low crosses are a great way to ensure your cross into the box goes directly to your receiver’s feet. Unlike a cross, these are delivered across the ground. You will also notice a slight curve to these passes. This is helpful to get around defenders but come back before the keeper can reach it.

PS Controls: Double tap square.

Xbox Controls: Double tap X.

High Cross

A high cross does exactly what you would think; it adds more height to your crosses. A passing technique reduces the likelihood of the ball being intercepted. The ending result will likely be a header, so it’s great to use if you have a player who is an aerial threat.

Hold L1 while pressing square on PS or LB while pressing X on Xbox for a high cross.

PS Controls: Hold L1 while pressing square.

Xbox Controls: Hold LB while pressing X.

Driven Cross

A driven cross delivers a quick, accurate cross into the box at a medium height. This passing technique has an advantage: it’s fast. Therefore, use this pass if you’re on a quick break and the defenders are out of position.

This pass can set up powerful finishes or a chest-and-down controlled finish.

PS Controls: L1 and R1 and square.

Xbox Controls: LB and RB and X.

Driven Low Cross

EA FC 25 also allows you to combine a driven cross and low cross together for a really fast and low cross into the box. It differs to the driven cross as this pass will brush the grass of the pitch to get to your teammate.

A driven low cross is perfect to set up a powerful finishing strike.

PS Controls: L1 and R1 while double tapping square.

Xbox Controls: LB and RB while double tapping X.

Bending Your Passes

Swerving Ground Pass

A swerving pass gives you more control over how you get the ball from point A to point B. So, it can be a great way to bypass other players on the field.

A swerving ground pass will only bend when the power is over two bars. The more powerful your pass, the more bend it will have. It also depends on your player’s ability to curve the ball.

PS Controls: L2 and X.

Xbox Controls: LT and A.

Swerving Through Ball

You are also able to add a bend to through balls. Adding a bend to through balls is a great way to get the ball out to the wing without risking an interception.

Again, the longer you hold it down the more curve there will be. The curve also depends on the location of the receiver in relation to the first player.

PS Controls: L2 and triangle.

Xbox Controls: LT and Y.

Swerving Precision Through Ball

A swerving precision through ball combines two pro-level passes together. If you thought the precision through ball was easy to master, then have a go at this one.

A swerving precision through ball gives you the best chances of placing a through ball exactly where your player needs it. This may take some time to get used to, but it’s an excellent way to set up a counterattack.

PS Controls: R1 and L2 while pressing triangle.

Xbox Controls: RB and LT while pressing Y.

Outside of the Foot Passing

Outside of Foot Pass

When passing the ball, you should use the outside of your foot instead of your weak foot. Using this will ensure more accuracy for your pass, and is less likely to go to the other team.

Hold down L2 and X for PS or LT and A for Xbox to perform this pass. This pass will only come from the outside of the foot if the ball is at the right angle on the strong foot.

PS Controls: L2 and X.

Xbox Controls: LT and A.

Outside of Foot Through Ball

You can also perform an outside of the foot pass in a through ball pass.

Again, this helps to set up an accurate pass if you aren’t using your strong foot. A pass like this can ensure you take advantage of a quick break. Instead of waiting the extra seconds to get onto your other foot, use this technique.

PS Controls: L2 and triangle.

Xbox Controls: LT and Y.

Outside of Foot Lob Pass

Using the outside of the foot to perform a lob pass is a quick way to switch the ball to another section of the pitch. This passing technique proves useful when you need to quickly release the ball from your possession to avoid a tackle.

This pass will only happen if the circumstances are the same as the outside the foot pass.

PS Controls: L2 and square.

Xbox Controls: LT and X.

Outside of Foot Cross

The outside of the foot cross is the same as the outside of the foot pass but will happen in the opponent’s box area. This passing technique will operate the same as a regular cross but must have the same circumstances to necessitate an outside of the foot pass.

PS Controls: L2 and square.

Xbox Controls: LT and X.

Outside of Foot Lob Through Ball

Combining various passing techniques, the outside of the foot lob through ball is an effective way to swiftly set up a striker for a goal-scoring opportunity. This passing technique lifts the ball above defenders while allowing your player to run onto the ball. So, it combines a quick release with an ideal setup.

PS Controls: L1 and L2 while pressing triangle.

Xbox Controls: LB and LT while pressing Y.
