Turn 10 Studios and the Forza Motorsport team revealed a new trailer and detailed how they build cars, tracks, audio and more for the upcoming racer. They discuss how this will deliver a generational leap in fidelity, immersion and realism.
Forza Motorsport will feature over 500 cars at launch with more than 800 upgrades and custom mods. Thanks to a spectrophotometer capturing multiple data points of light behavior on a surface, cars will look even more realistic. The buildup of dirt and damage on cars is context-aware, gathering more in low-pressure areas such as recesses and alcoves. The advancements to the physics simulation is greater than Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7 combined.
Twenty environments with multiple track layouts will be available at launch with five all-new locations, including South Africa – Kyalami. All of them will be ten times more realistic with highly detailed vegetation and overgrowth through photogrammetry and laser scanned images.
No two laps will feel the same with fully animated 3D spectators, dynamic time of day weather, wet driving surfaces and much more. Car sounds will be more immersive thanks to a partnership with Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos. That includes improved audio for tires, suspension, exhausts and turbos, which will change depending on installed mods. A new regional track announcer has also been added for more realism.
The official Forza Motosport blog has a list of cars and tracks that were featured in the trailer along with some additional details.
Forza Motorsport utilizes hardware-accelerated convolution reverb made possible by the Xbox Series X|S. This technology accurately reproduces how sounds in the game world interact within an acoustic space, dynamically adapting to surroundings as you drive along the circuit and creating a realistic and detailed soundscape for every car camera view – whether it’s in the cockpit, outside on the track or when driving through a tunnel.
Forza Motorsport is coming to the Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Xbox Game Pass, but a release date has not been given.
