There are only 9 players in the history of football to have won a World Cup, Champions League, and the Balon d’Or. Franz Beckenbauer is one of those nine. Unfortunately for players of EA FC, the legendary German defender has been absent from the series for the better part of a decade, last appearing in FIFA 17. But in a cool twist of fate, Beckenbauer has been reintroduced in EA FC 25 as an Icon.
An absolute legend in German football, Beckenbauer was the crown jewel of Bayern Munich’s back line between 1964 and 1977, helping lead Die Roten to four Bundesliga titles, three Champions Cups (now known as the Champions League), and four DFB-Pokal trophies among other accolades. In international play, Beckenbauer proved just as pivotal in West Germany’s 1974 World Cup win, captaining the team against the strong Johan Cruyff-led Netherlands.
Beckenbauer is the second high-profile legend to return in EA FC 25 after a lengthy absence from the series. Just last month, it was announced that Argentine footballing icon Diego Maradona would be featured in EA FC 25 after being removed from FIFA 22 due to a licensing dispute. To commemorate Maradona’s return, EA provided him with a marquee place within the Grassroots Greats promo, as well as a new Icon card.
Beckenbauer’s base Icon card should be going directly into packs. And already, he’s looking to be an incredible card that many players will be desperate to incorporate into their squads.
This comes from EA FC 25‘s official pitch notes:
On Friday, March 21, Franz Beckenbauer’s Base ICON version will be added to the Football Ultimate Team pool of items for packs as part of the UEFA Dreamchasers campaign. His first campaign version will follow on Friday, April 4, debuting as part of the FUT Immortals campaign in Football Ultimate Team.
