On top of Lightning Yordan Alvarez, we have what look like the best new Mini Seasons goals of the year (outside of getting a new player), and we also have Headliners Set 28 Future Stars Nolan Gorman. Let’s cover all the goodies below.
Headliners Set 28 Future Stars Nolan Gorman
Future Stars Nolan Gorman might be a fresh face in real life, but MLB The Show veterans should already have some fond memories of the minted prospect. He has been hitting dingers for some time, and that is reflected with the excitement around this card (albeit that excitement will now drop after seeing the ratings). He can play 2B and 3B, and he’s going to give you adequate fielding from those spots while hitting for major pop. That said, I still will feel more comfortable with him at 3B, but there he faces some stiffer competition and becomes a trickier add to the starting lineup.
He’s obviously much better against RHP, but I would also say he generally plays above his ratings. The speed will hurt his range at 2B, and it’s also disappointing that this card is generally worse overall than his one last year. He becomes more of a platoon player than the prior version, and he’s just not been given the same “benefit of the doubt” as some of the other Future Stars cards from recent weeks. He certainly does struggle against LHP, but rosy projections for some of the other Future Stars with less of a track record make this Gorman card a little more shocking. Regardless, I’m still excited to use him, but he does appear to be more of a bench bat in many lineups.
The odds on Headliners packs to pull a diamond are 1:10 (as always), albeit that diamond might not be Future Stars Nolan Gorman. In addition, this year you can buy one pack of the Headliners choice pack, which gives you 1:3 odds of pulling a 90+ overall diamond (and of course costs more stubs).
New Mini Seasons Goals
On the more positive side of things, some of the new Mini Seasons goals seem very good (including the hidden missions).
- Score 10 or more runs in a game – Headliners Set 10 pack (25K pack) (repeatable once per season)
- Drive in 30 runs on All-Star – Ballin’ Is A Habit pack (x5) (repeatable once per season)
- Win 1 game while playing on Legend – Always Intense 2 choice pack (one-time only)
- Southpaw specialist (strike out 5 players in one game with LHP) – Hidden mission
- Now it’s Sho-time (2 XBH in one game with Ohtani) – Hidden mission
In theory, you can simply restart your season after scoring 10 runs in a game to farm that 25K pack. I don’t think I will do that, but it’s certainly worth running through another Mini Season to scoop up some of these rewards (and others not listed). While SDS still is not doing enough with this mode, this is at least a nice step in terms of providing more solid rewards. However, it’s still curious there is not a new player in this mode.
