What Are Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges?

Gran Turismo introduced Weekly Challenges to encourage GT7 players to revisit several events they may not have taken part in since their first playthrough. It’s a set of five races you can complete in any order to get three different rewards.

You are gifted credits or roulette tickets for completing 1, 3, or all 5 of the set challenges for the week. Sometimes, there are 6-star car roulette tickets up for grabs, making these easy races well worth your time.

I love this addition from Gran Turismo. It not only gives us an option to easily collect additional credits but also gives us small, achievable challenges. Although we have a whole week to complete the challenges, you could easily knock them out in an hour or two.

To complete each event, you only need to place third or higher, so it’s not difficult by any means. You will get the normal amount of credits for each race, in addition to the extra credits the Weekly Challenges give you.

The Weekly Challenges are only unlocked once you have completed the GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and have received the ending movie for GT7. After, you will see a green icon next to World Circuits where you can access the Weekly Challenges section. From here, you can see all the information and quick travel to each specific event.

Race Events

Race 1

Event Type: Japanese FF Challenge 450
Track: High Speed Ring
No. of Laps: 2
Car Type: Road Car
Country: Japan
Drivetrain: FF
Suggested PP: 450 PP
Car Restrictions: None
Penalties: Off

For this week’s first Weekly Challenge, we hit the Japanese High Speed Ring in front-wheel drive cars from the same country. Race 1 is always the easiest; this time, you can pick your most powerful car from this class to muscle up against a 450 PP recommendation. If you fancy a slight challenge, go a fair bit under the 450 PP. I decided to take a stock Suzuki Swift Sport out, which is at 435 PP, and easily took the pack in the first lap.

The main rival cars are the Honda Civic Type R (EK) ’98, Honda Civic Type R (EK) ’97, Honda Integra Type R (DC2) ’98, and the Honda Integra Type R (DC2) ’95. The Honda Integra Type R (DC2) ’98 is rated 414 PP, so you could take a car even lower than this to make it a real challenge.

Tracks like the High Speed Ring are a blast, especially in slower cars. It has a great balance of long straights combined with some technical corners that aren’t too challenging. The key points to look out for are a good break on the second corner and then using good feathering for the midsection and final corner. Good feathering and being easy on the throttle will have you easily overtake your opponents, even if you aren’t gaining much time on the straights.

Race 2

Event Type: European Sunday Cup 500
Track: Eiger Norwand
No. of Laps: 3
Car Type: Road Car
Country: European
Suggested PP: 500 PP
Car Restrictions: None
Penalties: Off

From the relatively straight High Speed Ring, the next challenge takes us to one of the windiest tracks on the circuit: Eiger Norwand. This is the most beautiful track in the whole game. But, you won’t get much chance to notice the views as the winding roads will take up your full focus. I decided to race in my Renault Megane Safety Car as I don’t take it out much, and it’s bang on 500 PP. With aggressive driving, I could take most of the pack in the first lap, but the battle for first place took me to the last.

The main rivals for this race are the Alpha Romeo MiTo, Peugeot RCZ GT, Mini Cooper S, and the VW Polo GTI. In first place will be a BMW M3 that is well ahead of the pack. The stock BMW M3 is at 494 PP, so you should be able to beat it with a wide range of cars as there is no PP limit. I enjoyed racing in my 500PP car and think it was just enough of a challenge for me to still enjoy the race.

The Eiger Norwand track keeps you on your toes from start to finish. It is a real test of your mountain-driving skills as even the straighter sections take place over dramatic elevation changes. Even though the tight corners require you to break heavy, you can still maneuver your way to set up for quick exits around your opponents.

Race 3

Event Type: Vision Gran Turismo Trophy
Track: Kyoto Driving Park – Yamagiwa
No. of Laps: 7
Car Type: Vision Gran Turismo
PP: 850 PP or less
Car Restrictions: None
Penalties: Off

One of the major advantages of GT7 is the ability to race different prototype cars. The Vision Gran Turismo Trophy race series requires you to use one of these cars. For this race, I took my Group 1 McLaren VGT and tuned it down to fit the sub-850 PP requirements. I managed to take first place by the third lap, so you can definitely choose concept cars in the 800-850 range and still take the podium by the end of lap 7.

The main rivals you’ll face are the Porsche VGT, Jaguar VGT Coupe, Peugeot VGT, and the Mercedes-Benz AMG VGT. These have a wide range in the PP scale under 850, so you should be able to use most of your Vision Gran Turismo cars. As the game has been out for so long, you should have a few to choose from.

The Yamagiwa configuration of the Kyoto Driving Park is a technical drive for fast cars. The first section is fun at speed but the track gets tricky after the second half. Managing the first corner of the third sector is a challenge, as you think you can start putting on the gas early but it folds more than you first realize. The track is full of deceiving corners like the first and last ones, but these are slightly easily to manage.

Race 4

Event Type: Special Event
Track: Trial Mountain Circuit Reverse
No. of Laps: 7
Specified Car: Any Dodge Viper
Car Restrictions: None
Penalties: Off

This week’s Special Event race is perfect for the Dodge Viper lovers out there. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of this car in racing games, and I had to buy the Viper SRT GT3-R to race. I couldn’t keep up with the stock car, so I had to get additional parts to place on the top of the podium. This will set you back quite a few credits, so you’ll have to decide if completing the Weekly Challenges is worth it. Luckily, the sum of 800,000 credits will cover the full car and customization and still leave some credits for your bank.

The main rivals are all Dodge Viper cars. In the lineup, you will see the SRT Coupe, GTS, SRT GT3-R, and the Group 4 edition. All these cars have additional tuning, so if you do not have a tuned Dodge Viper, you will have to hit the tuning shop before the race.

Trial Mountain in reverse can be tricky, especially when taming a powerful Viper. The final corner is just as much of a pain to handle as the first corner. At least coming out of this corner fast isn’t as crucial as the regular track direction, but it still makes a big difference. The track is technical throughout, and even the straights do not let you get a rest. This race will push you to your limits.

Race 5

Event Type: World Touring Car 900
Track: Autopolis International Racing Course
No. of Laps: 10
Fuel Consumption Rate: 10x
Tire Wear Rate: 10x
PP: 900 or less
Car Restrictions: None
Penalties: Off

We finish off this week’s GT7 Weekly Challenges with a trip back to Japan at the Autopolis International Racing Course. This is the only endurance race where you have to worry about fuel consumption and tire wear, so take these into account. This race continues with the technically challenging theme of this week’s races. We have to take a fast car around a tricky circuit while keeping it cool.

The main rivals are the McLaren F1 GTR, Honda NSX, Honda NSX Concept-GT, and the Lexus RC F GT500. You will also face the GT-R Nismo GT500. To be successful in this race, you need to pick a car as close to the 900 PP mark as possible, preferably a race car if you want to do a no-pit strategy.

The Autopolis International Racing Course is hard to manage at high speed with its variety of corners. These corners will test your tire management. Luckily, fuel-saving strategies are easy, as you can coast into most of these technical sections. If you have hard tires and run on a high fuel map number, you should be able to do this race with no stops. Managing the tires toward the end can be tricky, so be careful when pushing it for the last two laps.
