How Cap Breakers Work in NBA 2K25

Creating your MyPlayer in a new NBA 2K game is always one of the most exciting things to do as you prepare to start your NBA and streetball career on the court. Many players (myself included) really take their time when trying to craft their hooper.

But even if you feel like you got your baller just the way you want, there’s a possibility that you might wish that you can give them just a few more tweaks. In the past NBA 2Ks, your build is your build. There’s no extra tweaks you can make after they’re created. However, in NBA 2K25, there’s a shiny new feature that changes everything, and it’s called Cap Breakers. You might be thinking “are Cap Breakers what I think they are?” Well if you had that thought then, yes, you’re correct.

Cap Breakers allow you to push your MyPlayer’s attributes past their limit. So if your three-point rating can only go up to 85, you can use five Cap Breakers to bring it up to 90 if you so wish. It’s very important to note that your Max Potential needs to be at the desired number for the attributes you’re targeting before applying Cap Breakers.

So going back to the three-point example. Although your three pointer only goes to 85, you need to make sure the Max Potential goes up to 90 at least if that’s what you want it to go up to with the Cap Breakers. If you create your MyPLAYER in a way where the three-point rating’s Max Potential is 85, then that’s the highest it’ll go with or without Cap Breakers.

So how do you get Cap Breakers? Well, it’s quite simple but it will take some grinding to get them. Also, this is only for if you play games in The City, not the NBA. But first things first, you need to join an affiliation in The City. RISE and ELITE return as the affiliations for NBA 2K25. Choose one and then you’ll need to build up your REP.

Building up your REP level each time will net you rewards. For Starter 3, Veteran 2, and Legend 1, you’ll unlock five Cap Breakers each, giving you 15 in total. Since it’s a bit of a grind getting to Veteran 2 and Legend 1, it’s definitely recommended to choose wisely as to which attributes to use your first five Cap Breakers on because it may a bit before you get your next set.

But once you get that first set, you’ll appreciate the boost in your attributes. And using Cap Breakers will also let you unlock the ability to get new animations if using the CB brings an attribute to a point where you can earn some new ones.

Cap Breakers are a welcome addition to NBA 2K25 and it makes the MyPlayer Builder process a little easier as you can use the CBs to help you strategize how you make your baller. If you’re looking to get a Hall of Fame or Legend badge in a category, the Cap Breakers can help. Or, if you want to simply strengthen a strength, you can do that as well. The choice is yours.
