One of the goals for any player during a MyCareer game in NBA 2K25 is to activate Takeover mode. Takeover mode occurs whenever your player becomes red-hot during the course of a game, and it comes with a massive boost to your skills. Naturally, you want to try and activate Takeover whenever possible in MyCareer, but many players don’t even know the mechanic exists in 2K25.
Fortunately, taking over a game in MyCareer isn’t too difficult, and once you enter Takeover mode once, you’ll never have to question how to do it again. In the guide below, you can see everything you need to know about activating the Takeover mechanic and all the boosts that come with doing so.
How To Enter Takeover Mode In NBA 2K25

Takeover mode can be activated at any time in a MyCareer match. From the moment the ball tips off, you can begin building toward Takeover with your player.
During a game, you can look at the top-right part of your screen and find the “Takeover” meter displayed to the left of your current performance grade. The meter is located just above the “Chemistry” meter.
To activate Takeover mode, you need to fill the meter all the way from left to right. You need to reach and surpass five levels to fill the meter.
You can fill the meter by performing well throughout a match. This means scoring points, assisting on shots, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, and everything else that boosts your performance grade. Essentially, as your performance grade rises, so will your Takeover meter. You might want to brush up on your shooting skills.
Of course, this also means the Takeover meter works inversely. If you miss a shot, make a bad pass, allow an opponent to score on you, or do anything else poorly, you’ll lose progress toward the Takeover meter. In my experience, the Takeover meter usually fills up whenever my performance grade reaches a low A, but your experience may vary.
Whenever your Takeover meter fills up all the way, you don’t have to do anything to activate it. The meter is activated automatically when you fill the meter up, and once Takeover is activated, your player gains access to a special ability. If flames appear on your meter, you’ll know that Takeover mode is activated.
How Takeover Abilities Work In NBA 2K25

There are several Takeover abilities you can assign to your player, and this is done from the MyCareer menu. Specifically, go to the “Progression” tab in the menu and then find the Takeover section from there. The abilities increase specific stats for your player to make them stronger in a certain area for the duration of Takeover mode.
There are dozens of Takeover abilities you can choose from in MyCareer. You can click on the available options to see what stats they increase when Takeover mode is activated in a game. Some Takeover abilities allow you to jump higher so you can make more flashy dunks, while other abilities give your player enhanced shooting stats so you’re able to sink more threes.
It’s best to choose the Takeover ability that works best with your player’s position and current stats. For example, if you’re playing as a point guard or shooting guard, you generally want to stick with Takeover abilities that boost ball control, shooting, speed, etc. On the other hand, taller players can go for better dunking or increased blocking capabilities.
Certain Takeover abilities require your player to possess specific stats, however, so there will be some locked abilities in the menu. You can see the stat requirements for a Takeover at the bottom-right of the screen when hovering over the ability’s name.
After you select a Takeover ability, this automatically activates when you reach the five Takeover meter levels in a MyCareer game. Your player won’t become an immediate Hall of Fame player who makes no errors, but they’ll be much stronger in the area where your ability is boosting.
And that’s all we have on how to activate Takeover mode in NBA 2K25 and everything that comes along with it. Takeover plays a huge role in MyCareer, so now you’ll be far more equipped to make the most out of any given game.
