How To Change Archetype in PGA Tour 2K25, Explained

Everything you need to know about changing your golfer's Archetype and playstyle in PGA Tour 2K25.

At the start of a MyCareer playthrough in PGA Tour 2K25, you have to choose your golfer’s Archetype. This determines what kind of golfer your player is going to be and what playstyle you’re going to prioritize with your attribute allocation. There are five Archetypes to choose from in MyCareer, and all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Whether you make a hasty decision or linger over the choice when picking your Archetype, you might want to change it later on. After all, playing with a certain style can get old in MyCareer, especially after you’ve already mastered one playstyle or you’re not really gelling with the one you selected. However, there’s seemingly no option to go back and change your Archetype in PGA Tour 2K25, so can it even be done?

You can find out the answer to that pressing question in the guide below.

Can You Change Your Archetype In PGA Tour 2K25?

The reason you don’t see a way to change your Archetype in PGA Tour 2K25 is because there is no method to do so in MyCareer. Once you select your chosen Archetype in a playthrough, that choice is permanent and cannot be reversed. This means whatever Archetype you choose at the start of a MyCareer save is what you’ll be working with for the entirety of that player’s career.

The explanation behind why the developers decided to make the choice permanent is relatively simple. They want you to take full advantage of the attribute system, which allows you to put points into several different stats to change the way your golfer behaves. You also have access to Tools and Fittings, which can also affect your golfer on the course.

Naturally, the developers also want you to play with a specific playstyle in mind when you select an Archetype in MyCareer. However, it appears the developers felt the entirety of a playthrough would get too muddled if you were allowed to change your Archetype whenever you felt like it. This would affect your attributes, Tools, and Fittings, forcing you to alter too much about your golfer if you could change Archetypes.

Of course, most players would be happy to theory-craft an entirely different build in MyCareer. Unfortunately, you’re unable to change Archetypes, but there’s still something you can do to change up how your golfer behaves.

What To Do If You Want To Change Your Archetype In MyCareer

While you can’t change Archetypes in MyCareer, you can switch up all of your attributes, even if you have already spent points on a plethora of upgrades.

You’re able to do this through the respec attribute system in MyCareer. “Respec” refers to the ability to reallocate attribute points that you have already earned and spent in a playthrough. We explained how to respec attribute points more in-depth in a previous guide, but you can see the basics of the system below:

  • In the attribute progression menu, you can see all of your current stats in MyCareer
  • By hovering over any attribute, you can use your joystick to claw back the points you have put into that attribute
  • This returns the points to your “Owned AP” inventory, which you can see below the attributes
  • Next to Owned AP, you’ll also see an option to “Respec Attributes”
  • The first time you select this option, you have to pay 500 VC. However, every time after that, respeccing attributes costs no extra VC
  • This means you can spend 500 VC to respec your attributes as much and as frequently as you want
  • Once you respec, your golfer’s OVR will drop to the default 65 OVR. After you reallocate all of your new attribute points from respeccing, though, your golfer’s OVR will return to what it was previously

By using the respec system in MyCareer, you can effectively change up your golfer’s build on the fly. While you have to keep the same Archetype, which comes with inherent abilities and skills, changing up your attributes to match your current preferred playstyle is the best way to alter how your golfer behaves.

The best part about this system is that it only costs a one-time fee of 500 VC. So for that price, you can change up your golfer’s attributes at any time, giving you the chance to test out as many builds as your heart desires.

So there you have it. You can’t change your Archetype in PGA Tour 2K25 MyCareer, but you are able to change up your build to try out some new playstyles.
