How to Create Music Tracks in the City in NBA 2K23

NBA 2K23’s MyCareer is one of the best features in the game. Hitting the court with your customized player and building up your attributes at your own pace can be quite a thrill. You can take the no money spent route (NMS) like I did, or you can throw money into purchasing VC. For me, the NMS route was slow and arduous and required me doing a lot of quests in The City.

My time in The City has left me feeling conflicted. On one hand, there’s a lot of really dumb side quests you end up doing, but they reward you with VC to upgrade your player. On the other, I can’t help but feel a callback to Tony Hawk’s Underground with how The City and the quests are presented. I’m not just saying that because you can ride around on a skateboard with terribly designed controls and physics. There’s just something about the open world and the quest chasing that brings back fond memories of Underground.

One of the quests you end up undertaking involves creating music tracks at Dreamville Studio.

Making Moves

Your journey as one of the NBA’s newest stars takes you across The City. You’ll help sell hot dogs, take a bunch of selfies with a convenience store clerk, and skate around in circles to appease hipsters. All of these mundane tasks are intended to help you build clout and gain a following during your rookie season.

If you want clout and cred, why not become a recording artist? You’ll eventually need to complete the “It’s A Cole World” quest to continue making progress in the main storyline. Once you do so, you’ll unlock the ability to make music tracks whenever you’d like at Dreamville Studio.

Drop It Like It’s Hot

To begin the music making process, head to Dreamville Studio at this point on the map. Once inside, head over to the soundboard and hit the corresponding button when prompted to start recording.

Doing so will bring up the following display where you’ll make music magic.

Depending on the console you’re using, the corresponding buttons will differ. At this point, the power is in your hands as you can swap between 10 different kits and let the beats run wild. I actually found myself having fun messing around for a while once I got the hang of looping tracks and finding sounds I liked. Hold the corresponding button for your console to begin recording and then you’ll be able to save the track if it’s to your liking.

You won’t be expected to produce any masterpieces, but you will need to create and save tracks to make story progress. If you’re musically inclined, you might even get a kick out of creating music tracks in The City in NBA 2K23.
