How To Play NBA 2K25 MyCAREER on Switch

Is MYCAREER mode available in NBA 2K25 without requiring any workarounds?

You can play NBA 2K25 across several different systems: PlayStation 4 + 5, Xbox One + Series X|S, PC, and… Nintendo Switch. The Switch version of 2K is easily the least popular of all the available systems simply due to its limitations. Released in 2017, the Switch is an incredibly underpowered machine by today’s standards and as a result, the 2K developers restrict what you can access on the console.

In recent years, one of the cuts on the Switch version has been the MyCAREER mode. While there were workarounds to get the mode playable on the Switch, are they needed with 2K25? I’ll tell you all about the MyCAREER mode on Switch in 2K25 below.

Unlike in previous years, MyCAREER mode is accessible on the Switch in NBA 2K25. Just by inserting the game cartridge into your console, you can play MyCAREER without having to use an extra SD card for storage or any of the other workarounds that have been required in years past.

However, there are some extra limitations with MyCAREER on the Switch that you need to be aware of. For starters, you can only play MyCAREER online, so there is no offline option with the mode. This has been the case for years at this point, but it’s worth mentioning for any newcomers to 2K or anyone wondering why the mode isn’t playable.

If you can’t access MyCAREER on the Switch, check and make sure you’re connected to the Internet and that your connection is fully online. You can connect to the Internet right from the home screen in 2K25 on the Switch and this option is right next to the MyCAREER icon. If you’re not connected to the Internet, you won’t be able to click the icon.

In addition to being an online-only mode, MyCAREER on the Switch doesn’t allow you to play as a WNBA player. It’s unclear exactly why 2K had to make this cut with the Switch version, but it likely comes down to storage space. By default, the Switch has a low storage capacity and it was probably difficult to get all of the basics on the console, let alone some of the extra features.

Besides those two limitations, though, MyCAREER on the Switch is fully playable. You can boot it up with your game cartridge and have access to a total of four save slots in the mode. This means you can play the mode with four differently created players, which will all be in the NBA rather than the WNBA.

Once you choose a save slot, you can edit your player’s looks and start them on their basketball journey. Something to note here, you can make changes to your player’s appearance once you’re inside MyCAREER. There are some misconceptions that the Switch version doesn’t allow you to edit your player after the character creation section is over.

Is MyCAREER Worth It On The Switch?

Now that you know the MyCAREER mode is mostly accessible on the Switch in 2K25, is the mode worth your time?

For the most part, MyCAREER plays as you would expect on the Switch. However, 2K as a whole on the Nintendo console requires a steep learning curve. It’s incredibly difficult to shoot and do other basic mechanics, such as stealing the ball or performing moves with the ball in your hands. While you can get around these troubles by using an external controller that vaguely reflects an Xbox controller, some players don’t have that option. Using the joycons on the Switch makes 2K a taxing experience, especially when you’re first learning the controls.

If you’re ready to take on that challenge, though, you’ll likely have an enjoyable time with 2K25 on the Switch. Of course, the experience is massively improved on a standard PlayStation or Xbox console or PC. Your game will run much smoother, the controls are more intuitive, and you’ll have access to every bit of content that 2K25 offers.

However, for players with a Switch alone, you can get a fulfilling experience from MyCAREER and the rest of 2K25.
