As a pitcher in MLB The Show 24, there are so many elements of the game you have to be mindful of when you’re out on the mound. You have to try and keep hitters on their toes with the right pitches, watch out for the pitch clock, and attempt to play mind games with the runners on base. Regarding that last bit, ensuring that baserunners don’t steal too many bases is a huge part of being a pitcher.
While few things can make a runner not steal a base if they have the capability to do so, you as a pitcher can make it easier to throw them out. This is mainly done by using the Quick Pitch mechanic, which allows your pitcher to accelerate their throwing motion to home plate. By doing this, you give your catcher a better shot at throwing out the runner since you got the ball to home faster.
Quick Pitching isn’t explained very well in MLB The Show 24, though, so let me show how to use it and the best times to take advantage of the mechanic.
How To Use Quick Pitch In MLB The Show 24

The Quick Pitch is mainly used when at least one runner is on base (usually first or second base) and your pitcher is in the stretch position. The stretch already gives your pitcher a faster throwing motion and allows you to try pick-off attempts to catch a baserunner sleeping. However, you can also use the stretch to essentially waste a pitch, but get the ball to home two times faster than you normally would.
Obviously, with the Quick Pitch, you have to know there’s a high likelihood that a runner is going to try and steal a base on the next pitch. Otherwise, you could deliver a worse pitch to the batter and end up looking at a ball flying across the sky. If you’re comfortable using a Quick Pitch, though, you likely have a good idea of when a runner is planning to steal.
You can follow the steps below to Quick Pitch effectively in MLB The Show 24:
- Make sure there’s a runner on base before trying to Quick Pitch, as you need to be in the stretch position
- While your pitcher is at the pitch selection menu during an at-bat, you have to press and hold LT/L2 at the same time you pick your next pitch
- If done correctly, your next pitch will be at an accelerated pace to home plate
- However, if you press LT/L2 too early, you’ll initiate a pick-off move instead
Basically, all you need to do is press and hold the left trigger while picking your pitch and you’re all set to Quick Pitch. There’s not much else to it in terms of how to use the mechanic, but there are some strategies when it comes to the times you want to Quick Pitch in MLB The Show 24.
Best Times To Quick Pitch In MLB The Show 24

I just talked about the main use of the Quick Pitch mechanic, which is to accelerate your pitching motion to try and catch a baserunner stealing a bag. While this is the intended use for Quick Pitching, it’s not the only way players have found to use the mechanic.
Some more hardcore MLB The Show 24 fans have instead used Quick Pitch to gain an upper-hand on the batter at the plate rather than the baserunner. While Quick Pitching does cause your pitch to accelerate their motion, it still delivers the pitch that you chose and goes where you aimed the ball to go. So, some players discovered that using the faster motion actually threw off batters since they often time their swings with a pitcher’s full and slower motion.
By using a Quick Pitch on and off, you can keep a batter guessing as to what kind of pitching motion they’re going to get on any given pitch. This has become popular in the real MLB as well, with Nestor Cortes Jr. famously using whacky pitching motions to throw off batters. While it will take some time to get used to Quick Pitching in this manner, it’s certainly a way to gain an advantage as a pitcher in MLB The Show 24.
And that’s all we have on how to Quick Pitch and the different ways you can use it to be more effective as a pitcher.
