How to Set Up a Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Server, Explained

Wreckfest 2 is a game about causing destruction and chaos on the racetrack. The base game is currently in early access and features a modest amount of content to explore. From racing on new tracks to unlocking and customizing new vehicles, you can do plenty in Wreckfest 2. However, as with most racing games, the experience is amplified when you can play with your friends. Wreckfest 2 offers this ability, but you can take things further and set up your own dedicated server for the game.

A dedicated server means you can make all of the rules. You can choose who to invite, what the rules are, what tracks to race on, and everything in between. Of course, a dedicated server also comes with its own challenges, as you have to own a machine powerful enough to run the server, have the right Internet configuration, and so on.

If you’re interested in setting up a dedicated server for Wreckfest 2, take a look at the guide below.

Creating A Dedicated Server For Wreckfest 2

When setting up a Wreckfest 2 dedicated server, you must ensure that you have access to your router settings and a powerful enough computer if you’re running the server at the same time you’re running the game application. Of course, you can run the dedicated server on a remote machine to free up processing power on your main computer. This is how most players have their server configuration set up, but you can run the server and game on one computer if it has the proper hardware.

Once you have everything in place, you need to follow a set of key steps to get the dedicated server up and running. Credit goes to Redditor Mordinator on the Wreckfest subreddit for listing these steps:

  • Open up Steam and go to your Game Library
  • At the top of the screen, select the drop down menu that says “Games and Software.” It’s directly below the “Home” box
  • In the menu, check the box next to “Tools”
  • Now look in your Game Library and scroll down to Wreckfest 2
  • You should now see the option to install a new application called Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Server
  • Once it’s installed, right-click the Dedicated Server text, select Manage, and then click “Browse local files”
  • In the Wreckfest 2 files, copy these files: start_community_server.bat / start_local_server.bat
  • Now, go into your main Wreckfest 2 game directory and find the folder with the installed application
  • Paste the start_community_server.bat / start_local_server.bat files in this folder
  • Now, before doing anything with the files, you need to go into your router settings and make sure the 30100 port is forwarded
  • Save the router settings once this is done
  • After setting up the router port, go into your Wreckfest 2 game directory, find one of the bat files you pasted, run it, and you should have a dedicated server up and running

It’s important to note that the first player to join the dedicated server becomes the administrator for the server. This means that player gets to choose all the rules, the tracks you race on, etc.

Once the dedicated server is up, you can invite friends you have added in Wreckfest 2, who should be able to join. You might see the error code “100a1835233134” pop up, though. As far as I can tell, this error code currently doesn’t have a fix, so just keep trying to invite a friend if you see this pop up.

Useful Console Commands For Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Servers

Now that you have your dedicated server running, how about customizing it a little more with some console commands? Redditor faxfinn listed a variety of useful commands that you can use as the administrator:

  • race_director disabled (administrator privileges aren’t given to random players)
  • roles (lists every player that had administrator privileges)
  • role X,admin (replace X with a person’s SteamID to grant them administrator privileges)
  • name /X (sets the name of your server to whatever you want)
  • clients (lists every player currently on the server and their SteamIDs)
  • ban steamid (bans a specific player on the server through their SteamID)
  • kick steamid (kicks a specific player on the server through their SteamID)

There are, of course, more commands for the dedicated server, but those are the most useful ones you can use when you’re just getting started with your customized Wreckfest 2 experience.
