How to Update Rosters in MLB The Show 25

Play with the current squads.

Rosters are an ever-changing part of MLB. From big names being transferred to small players finding new homes, teams in MLB keep reworking themselves. However, sometimes, these changes are not immediately reflected in the games (especially when we’re still in spring training and rosters are not set).

Since we know how annoying that can be, today we’ll talk about how to update the rosters in MLB The Show 25. This will ensure that you’re always playing with the current lineup without missing out.

Can I Use The Current Rosters In Franchise Mode?

Yes, current rosters can be used in franchise mode. However, the flip side is you can’t change/update a roster once you have started a franchise. While you can’t grab a new roster and import it into an active franchise, you can always start a new franchise with the latest roster. But, even for that, you’ll need to load up the live roster first. So, let’s take a look at how that’s done.

How To Use The Live Roster In MLB The Show 25

If you’re having trouble updating MLB The Show 25 rosters, you might not have saved the live roster first. To do this, follow these steps.

  • Go to the ‘Settings’ in the top right corner.
  • Click ‘File Management’ and then ‘Load live roster.’
  • Save the live roster and start a new franchise.
  • Choose ‘current roster’ when asked.
  • This roster can now be used in every new franchise. Simply update it when a new roster is released.

Keep in mind that this is only applicable to franchise mode. If you’re starting a live game, you’ll automatically receive the updated roster.

Roster Updates Impacted By Injuries

If you’ve updated your roster and still don’t see some big names, it might not be a glitch.

Players that have ‘Current Injuries’ on will have their rosters impacted by real-life injuries. And with MLB having its fair share of injuries, it isn’t uncommon for players to be benched until full recovery. This did have some bugs last year, and we’ll need to see how SDS handles the full implementation once the season begins, but we expect this option to be updated in ’25 as well.

That said, some major names will be injured and must sit out the initial season. These include Kyle Bradish of the Baltimore Orioles and Ronald Acuna of the Atlanta Braves. Additionally, you can always check which players are injured and plan accordingly. If you feel like this is hindering your enjoyment, simply turn off this setting, and play without worrying.

Use Edited Rosters From The Vault

The other option is to grab rosters from the Vault area of The Show. You can find this area by clicking the Create button and then tabbing to the “Rosters” area. There is a wide selection of rosters that range from being even more accurate than the “official” rosters to created fictional rosters. You import these in the same way you do the “live roster” by selecting it before starting franchise mode.

You can also check our forums to see what other community members are working on as well since we have a community that helps out with things like more accurate minor league rosters to completely re-edited rosters with new ratings and equipment edits.
