Jason Varitek, Curtis Granderson Added to Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 25

Tek and Grandy are here!

Among the new legends announced for MLB The Show 25 is Jason Varitek, the former Red Sox catcher and captain who helped break Boston’s 86-year World Series drought. Having a player of Varitek’s stature is obviously a welcome addition, but to date, he hasn’t received a card in Diamond Dynasty. Until now, that is.

As announced on the official MLB The Show X page, Varitek headlines Drop 2 for the Multiplayer Program in Diamond Dynasty. Varitek’s first card is an 87-rated diamond. He’s a also a switch hitter, which should give you some lineup flexibility should you be able to insert him into either catcher or DH.

Varitek’s Breakout card — based on his 1999 season — has the following stats in key categories:

  • 84 Contact R
  • 92 Contact L
  • 79 Power R
  • 64 Power L
  • 89 Vision
  • 70 Discipline
  • 66 Clutch
  • 68 Fielding
  • 75 Arm Power
  • 78 Arm Accuracy
  • 60 Blocking
  • 48 Speed

On paper, Tek is a solid bat, but nothing extraordinary. His 66 Clutch won’t do him any favors in the heart of the order either. However, he does possess the Dead Red, First-Pitch Hitter, and Table Setter quirks, making him a strong candidate for your leadoff spot in the lineup. As we’ve already mentioned, Varitek is also a switch hitter, so the leadoff spot could be in his favor as well.

To get Varitek’s card, one must first attain a total of 85 Stars in the Multiplayer Program. To do this, you will have to finish the 1st Drop if you haven’t already. After completing that drop, you will be on 45 Stars, unlocking Terry Pendleton’s Contributor card in the process. From there, you must complete enough 2nd Drop missions to get 40 Stars. In total, the 2nd Drop nets you 45 Stars upon completion.

Besides Varitek, MLB The Show 25 is also releasing a new Curtis Granderson card. Based on his 2012 season with the New York Yankees, Granderson’s All-Star card is about what you would expect from a Grandy Man card — good power attributes with below-average contact, and not enough fielding or speed to play center field competitively online. That said, his hitting perks make him a decent choice for DH.

Granderson’s card is available exclusively through the third Headliners Pack, so it’s likely his price will drop significantly after the initial surge.
