Madden 20 Mods - Installation Guide From That Franchise Guy and Best Mods for Real 2020 NFL Season

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The best part about Madden 20 was that it was on PC and was eventually able to be modded via the Frosty tool and a dope community of creators. There is no such tool available as of yet for Madden 21 (but there’s still a general belief it will eventually happen) — by the way, this is another area where the EA team could do better supporting creators by making it easier to get up and running on the new game. Regardless, if you want to know how to install Madden 20 mods, that’s partly why I’m putting together this video. It’s obviously much cheaper to just play Madden 20 if you’re on the fence about Madden 21, plus there’s still people actively supporting Madden 20, which is the added bonus.

Thankfully, it’s really not that hard to mod Madden 20 if you want to go down that path. That Franchise Guy walks you through how to do it in the video below.

Best Madden 20 Mods

As for “must have” mods that’s really all up to you. The Revival gameplay mod from Sabo is very popular. It was last updated at the end of August to include a version that just changes playbook/logic changes and leaves out gameplay modding. This means you get things like:

  • New gameplay scripts like no-huddle urgency, two-minute logic, timeout logic, ensuring AI uses more of playbooks, changing Chargers and Panthers to more updated playbook styles for 2020 season

This means you can use your own sliders/edits rather than be locked into Sabo’s mod. Otherwise, the normal gameplay mod has been mostly the same since early in the summer and that can still be downloaded.

Version 2.5 of the “Start Today” mod from Sinthros and co. is now live as of September 17 and, as the name implies, makes it so the 2020 NFL season is better re-created in Madden 20. This includes additions like:

  • Adding new field for Atlanta and Denver, updating Falcons’ uniforms, removing NFL 100 logo from helmets, updating tweets/news section, updating rosters and importing @Eli2Manningham’s 2021 NFL Draft class

We have previously highlighted college football mods for Madden 20, and moving into Madden 21 that will mostly be consolidated down to one mod (the two main ones were the CFB 20 mod and the D105 mod). There is no complete college football mod for the 2020 season as of yet, but D105 did put out their final update at the end of August (download link), and you can use all 108 of these teams online in friend vs. friend mode, which is a cool touch.

One other cool touch comes from aholbert, who has worked on putting out updated “stadium experiences” for Madden 20. Basically, he updated banners in the stadiums, updated the jumbotrons, re-did certain ads, touched up certain aspects of some stadiums and so on — most of which help update the game for the 2020 NFL season as well. You can see this mod in video form below:

This news post will also re-direct to an OS forum thread by aholbert that highlights links to various mods and tools that have been discussed here (and others I skipped for time purposes).

Lastly, I would say don’t be intimidated by this process if you’ve never modded a game before. I promise it’s not as scary as it may seem, and you can make this work if you really want to update your Madden experience. However, be warned, once you mod a game and realize how much better it can be in this form, it’s tough to go back to the old ways.
