Madden 25 Patch Adds Custom Audibles, College Football 25 Gameplay Camera

Coming off the College Football 25 patch last week, we now have a patch in Madden 25 where the big-ticket item is also the creation of custom audibles that are auto-saved for up to 32 playbooks.

It’s an elegant system where you will go into the playcall screen and you can set your audibles for a formation right from there. The game will also tell you what number of playbooks you have done this in so far within these menus, and then they will save from game to game without you needing to do anything else. These custom audibles carry into online play as well, so it’s a win-win for everyone.

This is truly one of the best additions to the gameplay experience in some time. While it’s maybe wild it took this many years to implement this feature, it’s a massive addition and will really help make things more streamlined and fun for “serious” fans or those just looking to change one or two audibles.

The other major change involves camera angles:

  • Tuned pre-snap field of view in Standard gameplay camera to more closely resemble MADDEN NFL 24.
  • Added gameplay camera called Standard Alternate that resembles the default gameplay camera in EA SPORTS College Football 25.

The camera angle tweak is more of a mixed bag for some folks so far. The adjusted “standard” gameplay camera may be similar to ’24, but I think some are going to complain about it feeling too close to the action. You can still cycle to the other cameras with the D-pad, and you might like the “standard alternate” if you just want something similar to College Football 25 (I do like that default camera more), but it’s fair to say there’s no “perfect” camera for all situations in either EA football game.

Beyond those tweaks, the other major gameplay change I want to call out is this one:

Fixed an issue preventing pass blockers from handing off pass rushers to other blockers vs defensive line crash inside.

Having messed around with this in practice mode a little, I do think it’s better than it was before the patch. For those who don’t know, a lot of the “nano/glitch” blitzes involve sending multiple players through the same gap. In real life, that’s usually dumb because you’ll just fall over each other, but in this game the physics don’t really matter much when it’s your own players running on top of each other. So you could get a variety of insta-wins through stuff like double A-gap pressures. I don’t think post-patch it’s perfect, but the offensive line is certainly doing a better job even if you don’t adjust the line pre-snap.

It also looks like there was a lot of tuning done to the tackling. Whatever positives “BOOM Tech” may have added, it has also made a good amount of the tackling “uglier” or at least silly looking at times, so we’ll see if this at least cleans up some of the visual elements of the feature and smooths out some of the physics-based animations.

On the presentation front, a bunch of new facemasks were added, and some commentary was added/fixed for some of the broadcasters. Lastly, there was a minor freakout this morning during server maintenance when everyone thought their online franchises had been deleted — and technically they were deleted for a brief moment in time — but following the completion of the maintenance all franchises were restored and the pitchforks were placed back in the closet.
