MLB The Show 23’s social media accounts announced that Mike Lowell will be a new legend in the forthcoming game, scheduled to be released on March 28. Texas Rangers Hall of Famer Ian Kinsler was named a new legend last week, and another legend is set to be revealed today.
Lowell is best known for his time spent with the Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox. He’s a three-time World Series Champion and the 2007 World Series MVP. He has a 13-year career slash line of .279/.342/.464 and a career WAR of 24.8. He’s a four-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glove winner. The third baseman’s best season was probably with the Marlins in 2003. That season, Lowell hit 32 dingers and 105 RBI with an OPS of .881. He won a National League Silver Slugger award as well.
In only his second year in the majors, Lowell was diagnosed with testicular cancer. But he was able to fully recover and resume his baseball career. Despite all his accomplishments on the field, Lowell has said that beating cancer was his “biggest victory.” He’s also his religious faith as “a major reason why [he] was able to overcome the cancer.”
In 2005, he was traded from the Marlins to the Red Sox in a package deal for pitcher Josh Beckett. Although he was mostly an afterthought in that trade, he played surprisingly well in Boston, where he remained a member of the team until his retirement in 2010.
Since 2011, Lowell has worked as an analyst for MLB Network’s MLB Tonight series, where he sometimes teaches master classes in third base fundamentals.
Another new legend for MLB The Show 23 is scheduled to be announced today, with more likely on the way.
