Wainwright is not usually very popular in MLB The Show. The issue with him is that even with his great control, he doesn’t have top-end velocity or a great pitch mix. Pitchers like Cliff Lee have struggled to gain traction through the years for similar reasons. That being said, he has a sinker, curve, cutter, 4-seam, changeup combination. He has 92 H/9, 115 K/9, 122 pitch control, and he can field his position admirably enough. His sinker and fastball both top out around 93-94, and then he has a 74 mph curve and 82 mph changeup to keep batters off balance.

Since this is the closing pitcher version of Wainwright, the velocity is a little more stout than usual, and in a small sample, you might be able to keep batters a little more off balance than you would if he were a starter. But again, this is more a finesse pitcher than a power pitcher that most folks like coming out of the pen — at least if their names are not Sergio Romo or Pat Neshek.

The odds on the Headliners packs remain the same as always, so good luck if you try getting him in packs as you’ll have a 1:10 chance at a diamond, albeit that diamond might not be Postseason Adam Wainwright.
