MLB The Show 24: How To Jump At The Wall, Explained

Time to make some web gems!

If you’re playing defense in MLB The Show 24, there are few worse feelings than seeing a batter absolutely launch a ball into the sky. While it’s definitely worse if the ball is a no-doubt homerun, it can be just as bad to see it just squeeze over the fence. This has happened to all of us, but there’s something you can do about it aside from moving your outfielder to the edge of the wall and watching the ball go right over your head.

MLB The Show 24 allows you to make one of the flashier plays in baseball by giving any outfielder the ability to jump at the wall. This allows you to potentially rob a homerun or at the very least, save some runs from scoring. The mechanic can be a little difficult to figure out and master, though, so allow me to shed some light on how to jump and catch a ball at the outfield wall.

How To Jump At The Wall In MLB The Show 24

Fortunately, jumping at the wall just requires you to press a single button. It’s the same button you use to normally jump in MLB The Show 24, but this time, you’re jumping in front of the wall. By default, you need to press R1/RB on PlayStation and Xbox controllers to jump, which makes your player hop into the air.

Of course, if you have ever tried to rob a homerun or scale an outfield wall, you know it’s not as simple as just pressing the jump button. Jumping in MLB The Show games is notoriously finicky, and the same is true with this game. In addition to pressing the jump button, you have to time your jump just right if you want to bring a ball back into the yard.

When a ball is hit and it’s either going over the wall or going to hit the wall, your outfielder does have a chance to make a play on it. If you go to the part of the wall where the ball is going, the game will show you three arrows on your screen. These arrows will turn green in order from bottom to top, which lines up with where the ball is in the air. You need to wait until the top arrow turns green and then press the jump button as soon as that happens.

It’s important that you press the jump button the millisecond the top arrow turns green. If you wait a moment too long, the ball will go over your head, resulting in either a homerun or at the least a double. Of course, if you press the button too early, your player will jump too soon and the same result will occur. The timing is the most difficult part of jumping at the wall, as you need to jump at the exact right time to make a play on the ball.

How To Automatically Jump In MLB The Show 24

Fortunately, if you’re struggling with trying to make a jumping play in the outfield, you can have the game automatically make your player jump when they need to. This also works for diving, allowing the game to make your player dive in whatever direction the ball is hit if they have a chance to make a play. Normally, you press R2/RT to dive if a ball is hit just out of your initial reach.

To turn on this automatic feature in MLB The Show 24, follow these steps:

  • Enter the Settings menu
  • Here, go to the Gameplay tab and then scroll down until you see the option that says “One Button Jump/Dive”
  • Turn this setting on, which will make the game automatically decide when it’s best for your player to jump or dive

While this setting is great for players struggling to catch any balls at the wall or when they’re hit hard in the infield, it’s not something you want to leave enabled forever. Eventually, you want to try and get the hang of the timing with jumping and diving, as leaving One Button Jump/Dive on can result in the game making the wrong decision for you.

However, with how finicky both jumping and diving are in MLB The Show 24, leaving the setting enabled is especially tempting. I’ve found that the game will make the right play most of the time and it does result in my player robbing more homeruns or making more diving plays.

Still, once I managed to get the timing down with jumping at the wall and diving, I was able to turn the setting off and be just fine with those tougher plays in the field. The One Button feature also helps if I accidentally press R1 instead of R2 or vice versa. It’s always embarrassing if I jump when a ground ball is hit to my side or dive face-first into the wall when a ball squeaks over the fence.

Either way, manually pressing R1/RB to jump or turning on the One Button feature both allows you to successfully jump at the wall in MLB The Show 24. Now, it just becomes a matter of whether or not you can manage to make the play.
