MLB The Show 25 Unveils New Threads Program

New teams, new cards!

The offseason leading up to the 2025 MLB season was one for the history books. Juan Soto was given the most lucrative contract in sports history by the Mets, Corbin Burnes cashed in and set up shop in Arizona, and Roki Sasaki was acquired by the Dodgers (who saw that coming?). To commemorate players finding new homes, MLB The Show 25 will be adding the New Threads program later today.

New Threads will be focused on players who changed teams in the past offseason. In total, there will be five cards available in the program for Diamond Dynasty players to collect. They are as follows:

  • Jesus Lazardo (83 OVR)
  • Michael Conforto (84 OVR)
  • Jorge Soler (85 OVR)
  • Gleyber Torres (86 OVR)
  • Max Scherzer (88 OVR)

Longtime players of The Show will be happy to see classic meta players such as Conforto, Soler, and Gleyber as rewards. But most of the discourse surrounding the program has revolved around who the mystery 88-rated Diamond that will headline New Threads.

After the program’s initial announcement, many people predicted that the 88-rated Diamond in New Threads would be either Cody Bellinger, who moved to the Yankees this season, or Anthony Santander, who swapped the Orioles’ black-and-orange for Toronto blue. Honestly, either player would’ve been be a worthy headliner, considering that MLB The Show players have long loved both of them (Santander is cracked whenever he’s supercharged). Santander would bring an incredibly powerful switch-hitter card, and Bellinger would provide a strong lefty bat capable of playing anywhere in the outfield or at first base.

Unfortunately, the headliner for the program was revealed to be former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, who made a move to the Blue Jays in the offseason. Obviously, Scherzer’s real-life MLB career has been nothing short of impressive. That said, he’s an awful Diamond Dynasty card. Of the tools in Scherzer’s five-pitch mix, none of them has arm-side action. Worse yet, he doesn’t have any velocity. This card will essentially be batting practice in any online mode.
