NASCAR '25 Devs Confirm Laser Scanned Tracks

iRacing recently released its second NASCAR ’25 developer diary, where team members shared insights on their goal to make the game one of the most authentic racing experiences on the market. Their primary focus is on delivering authenticity. By building a product that real-world racers feel accurately represents their experience, the developers hope to earn the trust and enthusiasm of both the community and the broader industry.

The game will feature changes in car weights, tire characteristics, horsepower, aerodynamics and more, all designed to provide players with an immersive racing experience. The team highlights their excitement surrounding access to laser scan data for consoles, calling it essential to the precision of NASCAR 25. These laser scans are seamlessly integrated into the track modeling tools, allowing them to accurately trace 3D models onto real-world track points. The result is a surface accurate to the millimeter, capturing every subtlety and nuance of the track for players to feel firsthand.

Laser scanning technology is pivotal to NASCAR ’25’s commitment to authenticity. Players will see and feel every element that real-world race car drivers experience, from tiny track bumps and cracks to details like switches, welds and rivets on the car.

The developers also noted that racing offers a unique connection between virtual and real-world skills in sports gaming. While excelling in NBA 2K might not help players compete with basketball stars like LeBron James, iRacing’s community has shown that top virtual racers can often transition their skills to real-world racing, bridging the gap between the two realms.
