THE W IS EXPANDING

The W is growing and expanding in NBA 2K23 on New Gen consoles. This year, you’ll see a greater community influence, the addition of the All-Star game and Commissioner’s Cup, and much more!

The WNBA is growing, changing, and shining brighter than ever before. In NBA 2K23, we’ve made some big moves on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series S|X to help reflect that shine. This year in The W, only available on New Gen consoles, you’re going to deepen your connections with WNBA stars, expand the league, and come together as an online community to accomplish big things! This is going to take creativity, cooperation, and some serious skills. Are you ready to take your game to the next level?

ALL ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

nba 2k23 the w

In NBA 2K23, we’re excited to introduce The W Online community progression. Everything about this mode is structured around what we can accomplish together. Every Season will feature six weekly goals the community can work together to reach. If the community is able to reach the collective goal in four out of the six weeks in that Season, every NBA 2K23 player will receive a reward.

We want to reward members of the community for their individual accomplishments, but we wanted to experiment with the mode by providing a common goal for everyone to work toward—after all, basketball is a team sport. Your reward will depend on your contribution level, but when The W Online community wins, everyone wins.

THE W REWARDS

The W is packed with all-new content and epic rewards, including WNBA Jerseys, Logo, and Coach MyTEAM cards. You can flaunt your jerseys, brand new historic gear, and more in both The W and, on New Gen, in The City. All of the rewards will be exclusively found in The W Online. You will not pull a Las Vegas Ace’s Uniform Card from a market pack; you will not find a Candace Parker Rebel jersey elsewhere; despite the variety of clothing options available in The City, the Dawn Staley T-Shirt is a W exclusive. Put in the time online for exclusive rewards that’ll be the envy of the community.

WNBA JERSEYS

nba 2k23 the wNBA 2K23 features a plethora of noteworthy brands you can add to your wardrobe, including WNBA Jerseys. This year, we’re rolling out 60 WNBA player jerseys spanning multiple Seasons. Coming in Season 1, you can expect Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, and Chicago Sky, featuring two players from each team.GAME CHANGERS

nba 2k23 the w

As we mentioned up top, there will be community goals to chase, but there will also be smaller weekly goals for you to reach personally. Those special community members who invest an immense amount of time and effort to achieve the community goal will earn Game Changer status. Game Changers have the ability to imbue other players in The W Online with Player Boosts to help push the community to reach our goals. In subsequent weeks, Game Changers will also be able to unlock new and exclusive rewards to The W Online, including Team Takeover Boosts. Check out each of the Team Takeover Boosts and their perk below:

  • Helping Hand – Gift a percentage of your takeover actions to a teammate who needs help filling their bucket
  • Accelerator – Fill the takeover meter faster
  • Extender – This useful boost extends the duration a takeover is active
  • Resilience – Minimizes the effect of a negative action that would otherwise cause the meter to decrease
  • Game Changers have the ability to make a significant impact, and quite literally change the game.

CONTACT CHALLENGES

nba 2k23 the w

In the spirit of bringing you closer to the league, NBA 2K23 expands on our contacts feature by introducing Contact Challenges. In previous games you’ve been able to connect with WNBA All-Stars, legends, and coaches to improve badge categories, and we’re happy to take those experiences a step further. As you progress through the mode and gain contacts, they will issue you challenges. These challenges will have you circling certain games on the calendar, teaming up with new players in Contact Workouts, aiming for season-long stat goals, and stretching your game in new ways. Challenges will get progressively harder and completing them will earn you Player Boosts and Historic Contacts. Contact Challenges are an excellent way to grow your game and brush up on the game’s legends.

ALL-STAR & COMMISSIONER’S CUP

For the first time in The W, your MyPLAYER will now have the opportunity to make the All-Star team and participate in the All-Star game. Display your skills in front of adoring fans in a premier showcase of elite basketball talent. Commissioner’s Cup games are another new addition, culminating in the high stakes final Cup game. The mid-season tournament was implemented in the WNBA last year and offers a potential preview at a WNBA Finals matchup down the road. We’re thrilled to highlight two of the WNBA’s most competitive formats in NBA 2K23.

LEAGUE EXPANSION

nba 2k23 the w

The additions of the All-Star game and the Commissioner’s Cup this year better reflect what the league is, but we didn’t stop there. We also want to give you the opportunity to build the future you want to see. Progressing in The W to the maximum level 10 in League Popularity will unlock 2 Expansion Team slots. From here, you control how the league expands. Pick the city, build the arena, create the logo, design the uniforms. Revive a historic team? Put a team in your City? It’s all up to you.

CLOSING REMARKS

As you can see, change is the name of the game this year in The W. As the WNBA continues to evolve, we want to evolve with it, continuing to expand The W’s scope. We can’t wait to see how you choose to grow the game and the league. Everyone is capable of being a Game Changer and helping lead the community to new heights in NBA 2K23!
