It seems fitting that as we crown College Football 25 as our GOTY for 2024 that EA will finally be shutting down the NCAA Football 14 servers in March 2025.
It will have been a hell of a run for ’14, and while I never want to see an old game’s servers be closed down, EA has kept those servers alive much longer than most of its other sports games. It’s pretty clear that EA did that both as a service to us and to keep the game in our thoughts during the decade-plus without a college game. I would not be surprised to see the same thing happen for NBA Live 19 because while NBA Live 18‘s servers were shutdown in November 2024, it doesn’t seem like the same fate is coming for ’19 in 2025. It is in EA’s best interests to keep the final game in a series alive as long as possible.
As for NCAA Football 14, I’ve already given an extended thanks to everyone who kept that game alive months back so I won’t belabor that aspect of things once again, but it goes without saying that NCAA Football 14 played a very important part in a lot of people’s lives. Some online dynasties lasted for years in real life, and TeamBuilder chugged along for an insanely long time as people just kept trying to get every last bit out of ’14. And, obviously, NCAA Football 14 would only be worth all that effort in the first place if the game was good — there were not many people clamoring for more content for NCAA Basketball 10 (and those servers were shutdown many years ago anyway).
So if you still have a copy of the game, you’ll obviously still be able to play it even after March 2025, but if you want to do any last looks around or play one last online dynasty with some friends for old time’s sake, now is the time because, well, it’s closing time.
