It’s the final weekend before our college football video game odyssey comes to an end. The official countdown is 6 days, but some folks who pre-ordered will be able to start playing EA Sports College Football 25 on Monday at 4 p.m. EST at this point.
Whatever countdown you want to go by, it all points to this being our last Saturday without college football. After 11 years, college football is moments away from being back on our consoles. This weekend might even not crawl because EA has lifted the embargo for creators, and so folks EA gave codes out to are hitting us with plenty of videos.
As I also said in our first newsletter yesterday (sign up if you want, we’d love to have you), it also means some concerns are starting to pop up. We have some community members who are worried about player editing, or recruiting being too easy, or a lack of mass substitutions for gameplay, and this is all normal and okay. Some folks will scoff at some negativity popping up or ignore the forums so as not to taint their own experiences before they even have them, and I totally get that as well. I try not to read any reviews before I go to see movies most of the time.
But at the same time, I would say this is all expected and it doesn’t mean folks aren’t still excited, it’s just the natural cycle of hype. People (and me included writing for the site) have gassed this game up, and in a sense that means it’s inevitable that some air has to be let out of the balloon. I just don’t want anyone to worry too much about anything before actually playing the game. It’s never clear what will be an issue until the game arrives and the day-one patch installs, so go with the flow for now.
Enjoy this last weekend of hype and don’t start thinking ahead already to some of things that may drag down your experience. We’ve all waited a long time for this day to come, and it would be a shame to taint these last couple days with stuff you can’t control anyway.
