Play Motion Controlled Mike Tyson's Punch-Out in a Browser

Ian Charnas has engineered a way to play Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out in a browser using motion controls. If you’re looking for a fun way to break a sweat and lose a little weight before Thanksgiving and Christmas, this might be the way to do it. All you need is a web browser, some boxing gloves and a webcam.

Ian used MoveNet to track movement with a webcam. Then he had to reverse engineer the code in the game to change the timing and slow down the movement of opponents.

Throwing punches, dodging and blocking are all in, including the star punch. While it might be a bit awkward to understand the mechanics, it shouldn’t take much time in the ring to get it down.

Watch the tutorial below and head over to the Real Life Punch-Out website to play. Ian has a limited number of licenses, so you might have to wait your turn.
