Rocket League: How to Open Drops, Explained

Once you receive a drop, all you need to do is open it to collect the reward. So, let’s look at how to open drops in Rocket League

How To Open Drops In Rocket League

Opening drops in Rocket League is pretty straightforward. Once you receive a drop, it gets stored in your inventory. To open it, follow these steps:

  • From the home screen, select Garage.
  • Here, you’ll see ‘Manage Inventory’, select it.
  • Your inventory will open, from here, press R1/RB to change the tabs. If you’re on a PC, click the tab to open it.
  • If you have any available drops in the inventory, you’ll see them in the third tab under ‘Reward Items’
  • Now, simply select the drop you want to open and follow through.

This will open the drop and give you the corresponding reward. The better the rarity of the drop, the better the item. In total, there are 6 rarities of drops in Rocket League. Here’s a complete list of them.

  • Sports Drop (Formerly known as the uncommon drop)
  • Special Drop (Formerly known as the rare drop)
  • Deluxe Drop (Formerly known as the very-rare drop)
  • Import Drop
  • Exotic Drop
  • Black-Market Drop

If you’re opening a deluxe drop or lower, chances are that you’ll get cosmetics like wheels, decals, or some uncommon car body. However, if you’re opening an import drop or higher, you can get a cool goal explosion, a fennec, or high-end cosmetics.

Another thing to note is that when opening the drop, you’ll see a list of all the possible content rarities. For example, if you select an import drop, you’ll see three possible rarities: Import, exotic, and black-market. This doesn’t mean that you get to choose the rarity of your item — it just shows you what’s possible.

To open the drop, you can select any one of these, and the drop will open. However, selecting any of these rarities does not guarantee an item of that rarity, since the outcome is completely random. So, even if you select exotic, you could still receive an imported item instead. The selection just helps you see the list of potential rewards, not lock in a specific rarity. (We know it’s a bit confusing)

Once you open the drop, you can either equip the item instantly or keep opening other drops. In either case, the item will be stored in your garage, and you can use it whenever you want. To see your unlocked items, follow these steps:

  • Select Garage from the home screen.
  • Select Customize Car.
  • All your items will be available here in their relative section.

How To Get Drops In Rocket League

If you’ve opened all your drops and want more, here’s how you can get them.

Completing Challenges

Rocket League features a ton of weekly and seasonal challenges that you can complete to get free drops. All these challenges are gameplay-related, so you’ll need to play the game to complete them. Once you’ve completed a challenge, you can collect its reward. For the most part, you’ll earn a sports or special drop by completing these challenges. However, since you don’t have to do much to get these, it’s free stuff.

That said, some of the drops won’t exactly give you drops. Instead, you’ll earn XP for completing them. This XP will progress you further in the season pass. Each milestone in the season pass contains a reward, and as you progress further, you’ll get more drops.

In either case, you’ll earn a ton of drops by completing these challenges. So, if you’re looking for a quick way of getting more drops, this is the ol’ reliable

Playing Tournaments

Other than the 6 drops we mentioned, there are 4 tournament cups in the game, which are similar to the drops. To open them, you’ll need tournament credits, which can be earned by playing the various tournaments. Once you have enough credits, you can open the available tournament cups. Here’s a list of all the tournament cups in the game.

  • Prospect Cup: Requires 1200 Tournament Credits.
  • Challenger Cup: Requires 4000 Tournament Credits.
  • All-Star Cup: Requires 12000 Tournament Credits.
  • Chromatic Cup: Requires 20000 Tournament Credits.

To open them, follow these steps:

  • From the home screen, select Play.
  • Go to Tournaments.
  • Here, you’ll see the rewards section. Head on over to it.
  • All the cups will be available here, select whichever one you want to open and continue.

Once you open them, there will be no animation, and you’ll directly receive the reward. Again, you can find these rewards in your garage. If you’re unable to open a specific cup, this means that you either don’t have enough credits to open it or that cup is locked. If it’s the latter, you’ll first have to fulfill the requirements of the cup before you can open it. Here are the requirements for each cup.

  • Prospect Cup: Available from the start.
  • Challenger Cup: Place higher than the top 8 in a gold tournament.
  • All-Star Cup:  Place higher than the top 8 in a diamond tournament.
  • Chromatic Cup: Win a grandchamp or SSL tournament.

Since the Prospect Cup is the easiest one to unlock, it doesn’t feature much gas, and the items are pretty worthless. On the flip side, if you open an all-star cup or higher, you’re gonna get some goodies. Unlike drops, which are limited in the game, you can open a lot of tournament cups if you have enough credits. So, if you want to keep living the high of unpacking, grind out the tournaments, and open the cups.
