A classic OS thread for most sports games deals with asking others for help determining who to start a franchise/dynasty with, but its origin story likely goes back to the NCAA Football days. Of course, the thread is now back since EA Sports College Football 25 will be out in July.
But answering this question for a college football game is harder than most, in part because there are just more teams to choose from (not even including Team Builder). Even if we don’t know certain things about the game yet, there are still a lot of factors to consider. There are the rituals/atmosphere, quality of the program, quality of the conference, location of the program, the program’s home stadium, and even more elements to think about. It’s why the question is so fun.
Whether you want to run a one-star school or five-star school, the variety of answers in the thread is already wild to see. OS user bmf395 starts us off by mentioning Iowa.
I’m rolling with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The uniforms, the wave, new Big Ten, and can I fix the worst offense in the country from last year. And their D should be one of the best in the game. Sleeper playoff team in real life too imo.
I also like that the thread creator, OS user georgiafan, chimed back in with some thoughts on Iowa.
I don’t know if I should ever use Iowa and fun in the same sentence. You could fix the offense situation and scheme routes which shouldn’t be to tough. With them I was thinking I would put in some house rules and you can’t have a 4 or 5* QB, HB, or WR and try and fix the offense.
House rules are always a fun option for recruiting — and in some ways became mandatory in the old games after you got used to the system in order to keep it balanced — so I like where their head is at here.
I can’t overlook some of the folks just mentioning their favorite teams, and so why not mention OS user GoDucks1224 and why they’ll be going with Oregon.
First and foremost, Oregon. And my goal in year one is really a national title given our roster, but at the very least, absolutely demolishing the disgusting Fuskies up north to vent my frustration of the last 3 losses to them.
Good, good, let the hate fuel you.
Team Builder has not been called out too much so far in the thread, but I think that’s in part due to knowing very little about it right now beyond it not being available for online dynasty. But OS user illwill10 still will be going down that path, and I suspect many others will eventually join him:
I’m going with my Team Builder team all the way. I already have the school name, team name, colors, an idea of my custom playbook. I just need more info about available stadiums and how in-depth the field customization is because I have a cool idea. I want to start as a 1-star school and stay there for the duration.
OS user PhillyPhanatic14 is on the same wavelength as me because how he’ll be picking is usually the route I go:
I don’t have any connections to these teams so I’m picking it the way I pick my FIFA teams… non-elite tier teams with the best combination of uniforms and stadium.
Something else that has come up multiple times in the thread relates to players. Even though we always had awesome people making custom rosters in the old games, there is still something about having the players being “officially” in the game. Various athletes have been called out, but one name that has come up multiple times is Dylan Raiola.
Raiola is considered by many as the top QB recruit in the ’24 class and will be playing at Nebraska. On top of Nebraska being a former titan of the sport and having plenty of heritage, this is making the Cornhuskers an intriguing option for many right now.
Either way, some of us just don’t want to choose, and so OS user JHamilton09 is leaving it in the hands of randomness by using the wheel.
But that’s more the exception, as most others still have a plan of some sort, with most saying they’ll start with a strong school first and then play with a “weaker” school. OS user El_Tercero sums it up nicely:
After I get used to the ins and outs of dynasty I will start my more challenging dynasty with UTEP. The Sun Bowl is a unique stadium that sits within the desert mountains of El Paso, Texas. I plan on taking them to the American Conference if I’m successful enough in the CUSA and then eventually to the Big 12.
This thread is going to continue to pile up responses, so by all means head on over and chat it up with other dynasty mode fiends who are waiting to be unleashed.
